About the Role
We are hiring a Finance Manager to own the financial engine of the business: the three-statement process, cash flow, forecasting, and the compliance calendar that keeps a global company in good standing. This is a hands-on role with broad scope. You will close the books and build the models, manage all tax filings, oversee billing and collections, manage AP, AR and the audit. Partner daily with colleagues and vendors outside the United States.
It suits someone who has already carried this weight at a smaller company and wants to keep the breadth while taking on more ownership — not a specialist looking to go deeper in one lane.
What You’ll Do
Three-Statement Reporting & Month-End Close
- Own the three-statement process end to end — income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement — including the linkages, roll-forwards, and reconciliations that hold them together.
- Drive the monthly and quarterly close: journal entries, accruals, deferred revenue, prepaid schedules, fixed assets, intercompany eliminations, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Produce the monthly reporting package for leadership and the board, with variance analysis against budget and forecast and a clear narrative on what moved and why.
- Maintain and improve the chart of accounts, close checklist, and supporting documentation so the process is repeatable, faster each cycle, and audit-ready by default.
Cash Flow Management
- Own the direct cash flow forecast — 13-week rolling and longer-range — and report on liquidity, runway, and variances to leadership.
- Manage working capital: DSO, DPO, deferred revenue timing, merchant reserves and settlement flows, and the levers that move each one.
- Oversee treasury operations, including banking, account structure, payment approvals and controls, and cash positioning.
- Monitor debt covenants and lender or investor reporting obligations, and flag risks early rather than at the deadline.
Modeling & Forecasting
- Build and maintain the integrated operating model, and use it to run the annual budget, quarterly reforecasts, and long-range planning. This will be in collaboration with the VP of Finance.
- Model the drivers that actually matter to this business: subscription and hardware revenue, payments volume and attach rate, churn and retention, gross margin, headcount, and unit economics.
- Build scenario and sensitivity analyses for pricing changes, new market entry, hiring plans, capital decisions, and downside cases.
- Support ad hoc analysis for leadership, the board, lenders, and diligence processes — including pulling clean, defensible numbers under a short deadline.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Own sales and use tax end to end: nexus monitoring and registrations, taxability determinations across states and product lines, notices, and audits.
- Manage the federal income tax return process in partnership with outside tax advisors — coordinating the provision, the schedules and workpapers, book-to-tax adjustments, estimated payments, and extensions.
- Coordinate state income and franchise tax filings, annual reports, and business registrations across the jurisdictions where we operate.
- Support international tax and indirect tax matters (VAT/GST, withholding, transfer pricing documentation) alongside local advisors, and maintain the compliance calendar so nothing is filed late.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Assist with the external audit or review: manage the PBC list, prepare workpapers and schedules, respond to inquiries, and keep the engagement on schedule.
- Prepare financial statements and footnote disclosures in accordance with US GAAP, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 and lease accounting under ASC 842.
- Design, document, and enforce internal controls over financial reporting — approval thresholds, segregation of duties, access reviews, and reconciliation sign-offs — and remediate findings.
- Support customer and partner compliance requests and any other examinations that touch financial records.
Billing, Collections & Revenue Operations
- Oversee the full order-to-cash cycle: contract setup, invoicing accuracy, subscription and usage billing, payment application, and revenue recognition.
- Manage collections strategy and performance — aging review, escalation paths, dunning, payment plans, write-off policy, and the allowance for credit losses — and drive measurable improvement in DSO and bad debt.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Support to resolve billing disputes quickly and to remove the upstream problems that create them.
- Lead automation and process improvement across billing systems so the cycle scales without adding headcount.
International & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work daily with international team members, outsourced accounting partners, and local advisors across multiple time zones, setting clear expectations, review standards, and deadlines.
- Act as a finance business partner to department leaders — assisting with budgets, explaining variances in their language, and helping them make better spending decisions.
- Mentor junior finance and accounting staff and help raise the bar on the team’s process and documentation.
What You’ll Bring
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with a track record of taking on more scope over time.
- Demonstrated ownership of a full three-statement process — you have built and maintained linked financials yourself, not just reviewed someone else’s output.
- Hands-on cash flow management experience, including building and running a rolling cash forecast and managing working capital.
- Direct responsibility for multi-state sales and use tax compliance, from nexus analysis through filing and audit defense.
- Experience coordinating federal income tax return preparation with external tax advisors. This will be in collaboration with the VP of Finance.
- Experience leading or serving as primary contact for an external audit, including preparing workpapers and financial statements under US GAAP. This will be in collaboration with the VP of Finance.
- Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills, with advanced Excel or Google Sheets proficiency and comfort building models from a blank sheet.
- Experience working with international teams, offshore accounting partners, or foreign subsidiaries across time zones.
- Oversight of billing and collections functions, with a record of improving DSO or reducing bad debt.
- Clear written and verbal communication — you can explain a variance to a non-finance leader without jargon and without losing the point.
- High integrity, strong attention to detail, and the judgment to know which details matter.
Preferred
- Experience in SaaS, payments, or fintech, including subscription revenue and merchant settlement flows.
- Public accounting experience (audit or tax) early in your career.
- Multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation experience, including intercompany eliminations and FX translation.
- Familiarity with ERP and finance systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Claude AI, or QuickBooks; tax engines such as Avalara, Anorak or Vertex; and billing platforms such as Stripe, Chargebee, or Zuora.
- Working knowledge of SQL or a BI tool for pulling and validating your own data.
- Experience supporting a private-equity-backed or venture-backed company, including lender reporting and diligence.
What Success Looks Like
- In your first 90 days: a clean, on-time close with a reporting package leadership relies on, and a documented close checklist anyone on the team can follow.
- By six months: a cash forecast leadership trusts for real decisions, and a compliance calendar with every sales tax, income tax, and regulatory deadline mapped and owned.
- By the end of year one: an audit completed without surprises, a driver-based operating model used to run the annual budget, and measurable improvement in DSO and collections performance.
