Senior Controller
Steiner eOptics • Miamisburg, OH • Full Time
Posted on Thu, Jun 4, 2026
COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Steiner eOptics designs, manufactures, and markets high-performance optical systems for defense, tactical, and outdoor applications. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Beretta Holding, Steiner operates across U.S. and international markets with a commitment to precision manufacturing, rigorous quality standards, and strict regulatory compliance. The organization is at an active inflection point — investing in systems infrastructure, leadership depth, and the operational processes that will define its next decade of growth.
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Controller is the financial backbone of Steiner eOptics’ U.S. manufacturing operations. This is first and foremost a technical accounting role — one that demands deep expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, and the financial discipline required to support confident, accurate decision-making at the executive level.
The immediate priority is closing the gap in manufacturing cost accounting support: building the analytical framework, the reporting accuracy, and the cross-functional relationships that allow operations and leadership to act on reliable numbers. A parallel near-term objective is contributing to the JDE ERP stabilization effort, which will underpin the organization’s reporting and planning capabilities going forward.
Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Controller holds primary responsibility for Ohio operations and provides financial oversight of the Ohio facility. This role also supervises the Controller and assumes financial leadership responsibilities commensurate with a senior individual contributor embedded in the operations of the business — not a back-office function.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manufacturing & Industrial Cost Accounting
• Own and maintain standard cost systems: BOMs, routings, labor and overhead rates, and cost roll processes
• Perform rigorous manufacturing variance analysis — purchase price, labor efficiency, overhead absorption — and translate findings into actionable operational insight
• Monitor and ensure the accuracy of perpetual inventory records, cycle count programs, and physical inventory reconciliations
• Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs; identify cost reduction opportunities and quantify improvement initiatives
• Partner with Operations on cost reduction efforts, capacity analysis, scrap/yield analysis, and make-or-buy decisions
• Provide financial support for product costing, margin analysis, and commercial pricing decisions
• Deliver the level of accounting accuracy and analytical depth that enables leadership to enter any meeting — internal or with Holding — with full confidence in the numbers
ERP Stabilization & Systems (Near-Term Project)
• Serve as the finance organization’s primary resource for the JDE ERP implementation and stabilization effort
• Ensure data integrity across financial systems: chart of accounts, cost center structures, cost flows, and reporting hierarchies
• Partner with IT and operations stakeholders to drive ERP process optimization and user adoption
• Build and maintain financial models, reporting tools, and Power BI dashboards that provide timely, decision-ready information
• Identify opportunities for system enhancements and lead the finance-side implementation of improvements
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
• Help plan the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecast cycles for U.S. operations
• Develop forward-looking purchasing and sales forecasts; serve as the financial conduit between Purchasing, Sales, and inventory planning to align supply with demand
• Analyze financial performance versus budget and forecast; deliver variance commentary with clear root cause and trend identification
• Develop, track, and refine financial and operational KPIs aligned to business objectives
Management Reporting & Consolidation Support
• Prepare and deliver monthly management reporting packages for executive leadership, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and forward-looking commentary
• Develop and implement Power BI reporting to enhance financial visibility across the organization
• Feed timely, accurate financial data to the CFO to support consolidated reporting
• Assess current reporting processes and introduce frameworks that improve speed, accuracy, and relevance
Internal Controls & Compliance
• Maintain a strong internal control environment; design and enforce appropriate segregation of duties and approval workflows
• Support internal and external audits; serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors
• Ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Assess existing controls and processes; introduce improvements that reduce risk and increase operational efficiency
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
• Directly supervise and develop the Controller; oversee division of work, establish performance expectations, and provide ongoing coaching
• Develop and implement organizational strategies for how financial and accounting information is captured, structured, reviewed, and acted upon
• Introduce new processes, controls, and reporting standards as the organization’s financial maturity grows
• Communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders; serve as a trusted business partner across Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales
RequirementsEducation & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Industrial Engineering; advanced degree or CPA preferred
• 8–10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing cost accounting, controlling, or FP&A within a production or industrial environment
• Proven track record of delivering accurate, reliable financial information in a manufacturing setting — standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting are core competencies, not peripheral skills
• Experience leading or contributing to ERP implementations or system migrations; JDE experience a strong plus
• Prior experience managing or mentoring direct reports
• Background in U.S.-based industrial or precision manufacturing companies strongly preferred
Technical Skills
• Deep expertise in manufacturing cost accounting: standard costing, variance analysis, BOM/routing management, inventory valuation
• Advanced Excel proficiency; demonstrated ability to build financial models and management reporting tools
• ERP experience required; JD Edwards (JDE) strongly preferred; Oracle, Dynamics, or similar enterprise systems considered
• Power BI or equivalent business intelligence tool experience required
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
• High-integrity, detail-oriented professional who holds themselves to an exacting standard of accuracy
• Business-partner orientation: comfortable in operational environments, proactive, and oriented toward solutions rather than explanations
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills; able to move from data to insight to recommendation
• Effective communicator with both financial and non-financial audiences; able to simplify complexity without losing precision
• Self-directed and organized; able to manage competing priorities and deliver consistently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred / Nice to Have
• Experience in multi-site organizations, including remote or secondary facility oversight
• Background in defense, tactical, or precision optics manufacturing
• Experience building or rebuilding finance functions in a scaling or transitional organization
