Position Summary:
The Senior Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate submission, follow-up, and resolution of behavioral health claims. This role works closely with payers, providers, and internal teams to ensure timely reimbursement, resolve billing issues, and maintain compliance with billing requirements.
Position Description:
- Submit, monitor, and resolve SUD and behavioral health claims.
- Investigate denials, underpayments, and unpaid accounts.
- Process adjustments, appeals, and refunds.
- Maintain accurate billing records and claims documentation
- Work with primary, secondary, and tertiary payers.
- Utilize Excel and reporting tools to identify trends and improve performance
- Assist with payer audits, record requests, and special projects
- Ensure all clients remain informed on their outstanding debts and deadlines; provide solutions to any related problems for clients
- Ability to work claims and enrollments in Mental Health Board system.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience as a billing specialist
- Mental Health Recovery Services Board billing
- Proficient in Excel (including V-Look up, pivot tables and moderate to advanced excel functions), navigating EHR/EMR portals & Claims management platforms
- Electronic health record software
- Excellent attention to detail; comfortable dealing with numbers and the processing of financial information
- Results-driven and ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of medical billing, CPT & ICD-10 coding and collection process, and contract specifications
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, College degree preferred
- 5+ years of medical billing experience.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, claims processing, and collections.
- Experience with EHR/EMR systems and payer portals.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Mental Health Recovery Services Board Billing Experience preferred
Essential Functions/Physical Demands:
- Positional: Driving in accordance with job duties assigned. Infrequent standing and walking. Constant sitting.
- Gross Mobility: Rare climbing, or crawling. Infrequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Frequent to constant reaching and handling.
