The Financial Controller’s team at Fairstone, as part of the Fairstone organization, is committed to supporting our broader business strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with the Accounting Manager of Fairstone Financial (carrying on Consumer Finance business) on all Loan accounting and reporting matters, adding value to the firm through strategic analysis, advisory, financial reporting, corporate governance and provide expertise and hands-on management of a broad spectrum of day to day accounting operations in support of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced industry professional.
About the role:
- Analyze financial results, prepare variance analysis and ensure integrity and accuracy of the IFRS financial statements notes related to Loan accounting.
- Lead the implementation of new, and adherence to, IFRS reporting requirements related to Loan and Insurance accounting and reporting, including researching and providing guidance to business.
- Assist with input on loans related matters including loan loss reserves for quarterly management presentations.
- Work closely with the Investor Reporting team supporting Securitization of consumer finance receivables.
- Audit liaison for Loan and Insurance accounting matters and issues with external / internal auditors and manage the outcome.
- Assist with the preparation of relevant disclosures in the quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Troubleshooting issues and serving as subject matter expert while working with other functional areas such as Shared Services, Risk, FP&A, Treasury and Tax.
- Lead the development, implementation and enhancements of internal controls, and ensure adherence to corporate policies and directives.
- Manage and/or participate in ad hoc projects (Product Processor enhancements, process improvement initiatives etc.), as required.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
A professional accounting designation preferred.
Progressive relevant work experience (3 to 5 years) involving product accounting, working with external and internal auditors.
Experience at a large financial institution and experience working for a multinational corporation is a plus.
Financial analysis skills and experience.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Strong knowledge of technical accounting (IFRS) and internal control principles.
Proficient in MS Office, specifically advanced skills in Excel.
Demonstrated leadership skills, with ability to influence and gain support for objectives.
Self-motivated individual capable of adapting to change, managing multiple tasks and continuously evaluating priorities to lead tasks/projects to completion.
