Position Title: Senior Accountant
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Department: Finance Department
Status: Non-Exempt
I. SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the payroll system and accounts receivable process. They will analyze, reconcile and provide monthly reports and supporting schedules for inventory, fixed assets and other general ledger accounts. The Senior Accountant will coordinate complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the finance team and with other departments.
II. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain strict confidentiality requirements for organization and staff information.
- Manage the payroll system and semi-monthly payroll process for both Turtle Bay Exploration Park and Turtle Bay Holdings.
- Report certified payroll as required.
- Ensure quarterly and annual payroll reports are accurately submitted on time.
- Manage all employee benefit tracking, employee deductions, carrier reporting, and enrollment with the help of the HR Manager as needed.
- Manage all employee 401K tracking, employee deductions, reporting, and enrollment.
- Manage all activities in the accounts receivable function.
- Complete and process credit applications and assist with outside reporting requirements.
- Ensure timely collections of receivables.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Provide accounting assistance for budgeting.
- Maintain an accurate tracking system for exhibition contracts including deposits, schedule of installments payments and certificates of insurance.
- Manage escheatment process quarterly and notify government agencies as required.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained for all campus stores’ inventory.
- Post inventory transactions and reconcile inventory subledger accounts to the GL.
- Work with the retail manager to ensure annual inventory counts are completed and reconciled timely and accurately for proper general ledger reporting.
- Monthly sales tax pre-payments and quarterly reporting.
- Track Fixed Asset expenditures
- Post monthly fixed asset reclassification & depreciation
- Conduct annual count of fixed assets and post adjustments as needed.
- Assist with preparing annual property tax returns.
- Perform variance analyses and prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Conduct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Assist in documenting and monitoring accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Assist with financial audits, censuses other outside reporting requirements.
- Review journal entries of junior accountants to ensure accuracy.
III. SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
· Assist CFO in planning, executing, and documenting Finance Committee meetings quarterly.
· Document meeting minutes for Finance Committee meetings and Audit Committee meetings.
· Train and mentor junior staff members.
· Assist other Finance team members as needed including greeting visitors, accepting deliveries.
· Participate in the Finance department’s cross-training, and assist the team as backup as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
RequirementsI. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Associates degree in Accounting/Finance or related discipline preferred.
· 3 to 5 years accounting/finance experience.
· Non-profit experience desired.
II. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of accounting and spreadsheet software required. Blackbaud’s Financial Edge and MS Office preferred.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
· Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work with direct supervision or independently in a fast-paced environment.
· Must be detailed oriented, well organized, and able to set priorities and execute multiple tasks within deadlines.
