About Us
Royal is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This position serves as a key partner to the Controller by overseeing project financial activities, coordinating the firm's billing process, maintaining the financial records of the firm's joint venture entity, and helping ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
The Senior Accountant works closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and the Controller to monitor project financial performance, support timely and accurate billing, identify financial issues before they become problems, and continually improve accounting processes. This individual is expected to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, recommend improvements, and become a trusted resource for both Accounting and Operations.
Accounting Support
- Assist the Controller with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Assist with financial reporting and other recurring accounting functions.
- Support audits and special accounting projects.
- Assume ownership of recurring responsibilities delegated by the Senior Accountant.
- Maintain accounting records for the firm's joint venture using QuickBooks.
- Perform bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and other accounting duties related to the joint venture.
Billing Coordination
- Lead the billing process in partnership with Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
- Review draft invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract requirements.
- Proactively communicate with project teams to resolve billing issues before invoices are finalized.
- Monitor projects approaching billing deadlines and ensure invoices are processed promptly.
- Help improve billing efficiency while maintaining accuracy.
Project Financial Management
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for Project Managers and Project Coordinators regarding project financial performance.
- Review project budgets, labor details, contract values, WIP, backlog, profitability, and billing status.
- Assist PMs in understanding project financial reports and key performance metrics.
- Monitor projects for financial risks and notify appropriate parties.
Process Improvement
- Continuously evaluate accounting and billing processes for opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Recommend new procedures and best practices based on previous experience.
- Develop and enhance documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Help strengthen collaboration between Accounting and Operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of public accounting experience
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience coordinating project billing with Project Managers.
- Experience with QuickBooks.
- Strong understanding of project and financial reporting.
