SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant supports the planning, organization, preparation, and maintenance of accounting records related to accounts receivable, accounts payable, CIP, cash, Virginia Retirement System (VRS), and general accounting. Provides financial information to management through research, analysis, and report preparation. Reviews and audits financial transactions and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance. Performs analytical work and provides technical guidance related to general ledger functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and the use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, calculator, and other standard office equipment. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or crouch to retrieve or file documents. Visual acuity is required for reviewing financial data, preparing and analyzing reports, and operating a computer with accuracy and attention to detail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment within a school division’s administrative or finance setting. The position involves minimal exposure to environmental hazards or physical risks. Tasks are completed in a climate-controlled workspace with regular access to computers, printers, and other accounting technology. The work is deadline-driven and may involve extended periods of concentration, multiple priorities, and frequent interactions with staff across departments to exchange financial information or resolve discrepancies.
