About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Interim Central Finance & Operations Officer, the Senior Accountant provides senior-level oversight of FVCDC’s accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audit, payroll, and financial compliance functions. The role works closely with the Interim Central Finance & Operations Officer organizational leaders, finance staff, auditors, and funding partners to ensure accurate financial information, effective controls, and compliance with funding and regulatory requirements.

Position Type: Temporary medical leave coverage until September 30, 2027, with the term ending earlier or being extended based on the incumbent’s return-to-work date.

Classification: Excluded 

FTE: 0.6-0.8 FTE, with flexibility based on organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the CEO and Interim Central Finance & Operations Officer to develop annual budgets, forecasts and financial plans, and supports operational leaders in monitoring budgets, reviewing variances and identifying necessary adjustments.
• Prepares financial statements and management reports, analyzes financial results and budget variances, and presents financial reports to the Board monthly and as required.
• Ensures financial reporting and other financial obligations under government funding agreements and grants are completed accurately and on time, including MCFD reporting and financial information required for grant applications.
• Completes and supports as required with month-end and year-end accounting, including reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial controls.
• Coordinates the annual audit, including preparation of working papers, draft financial statements, and required statutory and regulatory financial filings.
• Maintains and improves accounting systems, financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
• Support accounting, payroll and benefits administration, including providing payroll coverage during the absence of the Payroll Administrator or Accounting Administrator.
• Monitors cash flow, bank accounts, banking transactions, and related financial activities.
• Oversees the financial administration and reporting of designated and program funds, including the Family Emergency Fund.
• Coordinates FVCDC’s insurance portfolio and provides financial review and advice on contracts and other business agreements.
• Performs other related senior accounting and financial duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing.
• Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, audit preparation, and financial analysis.
• Experience in a non-profit, public sector, health, social services, or government-funded environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards applicable to not-for-profit organizations is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and explain financial information to non-financial leaders and Board members.
• Sound professional judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
