POSITION SUMMARY: 

Responsible for maintaining the general ledger, subsidiary ledgers and journals and closing the general ledger on a monthly.  Provides assistance to the department Director  preparing the monthly financial statements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Consistently coordinates the monthly close of the general ledger in an accurate and timely manner
• Reconciles all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
• Prepares for the annual Medicare cost reports by working with hospital managers to obtain required information.
• Prepares Medicare cost report and contractual/bad debt estimates for the current, year working with the hospital’s consulting and management firm.
• Works with outside auditors in the completion of the annual financial audit and Medicare cost report audit
• Provides internal monthly financial statements to external auditors.
• Works closely with managers and directors on accounting issues, providing support and education as necessary.
• Prepares the monthly Capital Budget actual to budget comparison.
• Assists with Disproportionate Share Hospital reporting and audits.
• Acts as a resource to Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
• 3-5 years related experience required.
• Alternate education and experience may be considered.
• Healthcare experience preferred;
• Must be proficient in the use of Excel and accounting and finance software programs.
