Senior Accountant

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic design collaborative in Boston. This is a hands-on accounting position with responsibility for accounts payable, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, financial controls, and reporting.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of accounting processes from start to finish. This person should have strong accounting fundamentals, the ability to identify discrepancies, and ensure transactions are accurate.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and CFO and will interact regularly with employees, project managers, department leaders, vendors, and outside accounting professionals.

Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable

n  Own the accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, approval verification, payment preparation, vendor inquiries, and resolution of discrepancies.

n  Maintain an accurate AP aging and payment schedule and monitor upcoming obligations and vendor payment terms.

n  Review AP activity for duplicate payments, unusual transactions, coding errors, missing approvals, and other exceptions.

n  Maintain organized and complete electronic records supporting invoices and payments.

n  Review new vendor requests and changes to existing vendor information for completeness and appropriate approval.

General Ledger and Reconciliations

n  Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

n  Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, prepaid expense, accrual, and other assigned accounts.

n  Research and resolve reconciliation differences promptly.

n  Prepare journal entries with complete and accurate supporting documentation.

Month-End and Year-End Close

n  Own assigned components of the monthly and year-end close process.

n  Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

n  Ensure assigned close responsibilities are completed accurately and according to established deadlines.

n  Identify unusual account activity, significant variances, and potential accounting issues and bring them to the attention of the Controller.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

n  Assist with the preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reporting.

n  Analyze account activity and budget-to-actual results and investigate significant or unexpected variances.

n  Provide accurate financial information and supporting analysis to the Controller, CFO, and other members of management.

Payroll Administration

n  Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including review of payroll inputs, employee deductions, benefit changes, and compensation updates.

n  Reconcile payroll to the general ledger, investigate discrepancies, maintain supporting documentation, and coordinate with HR and the Controller to ensure appropriate approvals and controls

Internal Controls and Compliance

n  Follow and help maintain strong internal controls over cash disbursements, vendor management, credit cards, employee expenses, and general accounting activities.

n  Verify appropriate authorization and supporting documentation for financial transactions.

n  Identify unusual transactions, control exceptions, unsupported expenses, or other concerns and escalate them promptly to the Controller or CFO.

n  Support compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and established financial procedures.

Audit and Tax Support

n  Assist with annual financial statement audits, tax filings, and other external accounting requirements.

n  Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation requested by auditors and tax advisors.

Process Improvement

n  Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, controls, and reporting.

n  Help establish and maintain written accounting procedures.

n  Look for recurring errors or inefficiencies and recommend practical solutions.

Team and Company Support

n  Work closely with the Controller, CFO, project managers, department leaders, and other employees to resolve accounting questions and obtain required information.

n  Communicate professionally with vendors and employees regarding invoices, payments, expenses, and accounting matters.

n  Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow issues through resolution.

Qualifications:

n  Bachelor’s degree in accounting

n  Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the architecture or construction industry

n  Strong hand on accounts payable experience required

n  Experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation

n  Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards

n  Advanced Excel required

n  Experience with Deltek Vision or Vantage Point is a plus

n  Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

n  Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy

n  Strong organizational and time management abilities

n  Effective communication and interpersonal skills

**The base salary will be estimated to be between $95,000 and $110,000 contingent on relevant experience, plus a variable bonus and benefits.
