Reinsurance Accounting Manager

Position Summary

The Reinsurance Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of profit participation and reinsurance positions across Alpha Warranty Services’ dealer reinsurance companies, 831(b) captive entities, and related insurance structures. This role manages reserve funding, cession accounting, earnings calculations, and entity-level financial reporting.

Core Responsibilities

Reinsurance and Profit Participation Accounting

• Manage reserve funding across 100+ reinsurance companies (monthly cycle, strict accuracy and timeline requirements)
• Prepare and reconcile cession accounting — contract-to-entity positioning, ITD calculations, prior period adjustments
• Calculate and report profit participation distributions by entity
• Maintain earnings curve allocations across 831(b) entities (once systematized — currently manual with known accuracy issues)
• Reconcile trust-to-cession balances

Financial Reporting and Close

• Prepare entity-level financial statements (monthly/quarterly)
• Support month-end close for reinsurance and profit participation accounts
• Prepare commissions, admin fees, and clip fee reconciliations
• Validate data between PCRS, Launch Pad, and Acumatica
• Support external audit requests for reinsurance and captive entities

Process Ownership

• Own the monthly cession reconciliation process (contract file to GL, dollar-for-dollar)
• Identify and resolve variances between admin system (PCRS) and accounting system (Acumatica)
• Document and maintain standard operating procedures for all profit participation and reinsurance accounting processes
• Flag routing or configuration errors in Launch Pad and coordinate remediation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance or business
• 10+ years in accounting, with significant time in reinsurance, warranty/VSC, or insurance accounting
• Direct experience with reserve funding, cession accounting, and profit participation calculations
• Advanced Excel (this role involves heavy reconciliation work)
• Experience with financial reporting and month-end close processes
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the vehicle service contract or extended warranty industry specifically
• Familiarity with AO (administrator/obligor) accounting structures
• Experience with ERP systems (Acumatica, Great Plains/Dynamics GP, NetSuite)
• Experience supporting audit processes for reinsurance or captive insurance entities
