Quality Control- Controller Or Senior Controller

The Quality Control Controller/Sr. Controller is a crucial role responsible for the final review of client-facing deliverables. As part of Petra's centralized Quality Control function, this role performs the final internal review of client-facing Fund Accounting deliverables before they are released externally. The Controller/Sr. Controller will apply deep fund accounting knowledge and sound professional judgment to evaluate deliverables across a diverse range of private market fund structures and serve as a technical resource to Fund Accounting teams.

Responsibilities:

• Quality Control Review: 

• • Perform independent, pre-issuance review of Fund Accounting deliverables, including financial statements and supporting workbooks, NAV calculations, waterfalls, management fees, capital activity, investor allocations and reporting, and other client-facing deliverables.
  • Evaluate deliverables for mathematical accuracy, accounting treatment, completeness, internal consistency, presentation, and compliance with applicable U.S. GAAP financial reporting and disclosure requirements.
  • Review complex calculations and accounting conclusions against limited partnership agreements, side letters, and other governing documents, and client-specific requirements, as applicable.
  • Identify errors, inconsistencies, unusual activity, and higher-risk matters; clearly communicate findings and work with Fund Accounting teams to resolve issues prior to external delivery.
  • Apply professional judgment and a risk-based approach to review, focusing on matters with the greatest potential financial, reporting, or client impact. 

• Technical Accounting and Operational Support:
  • Serve as a technical accounting and operational resource to Fund Accounting teams, providing guidance on complex calculations, fund governing documents, financial reporting, and other technical matters.
  • Collaborate with Fund Accounting leadership and other internal stakeholders to resolve issues and support the timely and accurate delivery of fund administration services. 

• Quality Standards and Continuous Improvement:
  • Support the development, maintenance, and consistent application of Quality Control review standards and procedures across Fund Accounting deliverables.
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and process gaps through Quality Control review activity and data, and recommend improvements to training, processes, and service delivery.
  • Leverage technology, automation, and artificial intelligence to enhance review quality and efficiency while maintaining appropriate professional judgment and oversight. 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA or other relevant professional certification preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant fund administration, fund accounting, or comparable private markets accounting experience, including at least 4 years performing senior-level review or oversight of fund accounting deliverables.
• Deep knowledge of fund accounting and U.S. GAAP financial reporting, including experience with complex fund calculations, such as waterfalls, as well as financial statements, footnote disclosures, and supporting workpapers.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting limited partnership agreements, side letters, and other fund governing documents and applying their terms to accounting calculations and reporting.
• Experience across a range of private market strategies and structures, such as private equity/buyout, venture capital, fund-of-funds, real estate, and private credit.
• Exceptional attention to detail, analytical ability, and professional judgment, with the ability to identify and resolve issues in complex financial information.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently research, assess, and resolve complex accounting and operational matters.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings and recommendations to colleagues at varying levels of seniority.
• Ability to manage multiple reviews and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining consistent quality standards.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with fund administration platforms, artificial intelligence, and other technology tools used to support financial review and analysis. 

Salary Range

At Petra Funds Group, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The compensation range for this position is $122,000 - $183,000 This range represents the base salary only. Actual pay will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, and skills.
