Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager, Income Producing Properties at our Vancouver Head Office, the Property Accountant is an experienced accounting professional who works well in a team environment, solves problems effectively, and manages multiple priorities. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of office, industrial, and residential assets. Responsibilities include full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation and review, results analysis, and support for the operations group across the assigned property portfolio. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities. Real estate industry experience in commercial and/or residential property accounting is required.
Key Responsibilities
Property Accounting
Prepare accounting entries for a portfolio of properties. Calculate annual tenant cost recoveries and prepare related adjustment billings. Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statement packages for accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Prepare monthly rent billings and electronic pre-authorized payment transfers, review arrears reports, and process daily NSF transactions as required. Deposit, record, and reconcile cheques, wire transfers, EFTs, and leasing commission fees for multiple properties, including related payables and receivables. Prepare month-end journal entries, accounting memos, and portfolio analysis. Follow internal controls, accounting policies, and established procedures. Work directly with property management to prepare and analyze budgets, accruals, cash flows, and forecasts. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Process Improvement & Team Support
Contribute to the review and improvement of existing processes to enhance efficiency and support proactive problem solving. Maintain consistent processes and procedures across the assigned residential and commercial property portfolio. Provide team support and back-up coverage during vacations, absences, and peak periods. Help maintain a supportive, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Experience in property accounting, ideally with both residential and commercial portfolios. Undergraduate degree or college diploma is considered an asset. Knowledge of Yardi Voyager, preferably version 7S or above, is considered an asset. Professional demeanour with strong interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to meet deadlines while managing competing priorities.
