Position Overview:
The Plant Finance Manager reports to the Corporate Controller and will be a key member of our manufacturing leadership team and the hands-on financial presence at the plant. This role lives in the details: monitoring costs, inventory, and plant performance day to day, catching issues early, and making sure the numbers reflect what is actually happening on the floor. Working closely with operations and corporate finance, the Plant Finance Manager will drive financial accuracy, transparency, and accountability across the manufacturing operation.
This role is built for a hands-on, detail-driven finance partner who is comfortable on the plant floor and confident challenging the numbers.
Job Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting and Daily Monitoring
- Monitor plant costs day to day, including material usage, labor, yield, scrap, and overhead, and flag variances early with clear explanations and recommended actions.
- Own cost accounting for the site, including standard costs, BOM accuracy, and the reconciliation of actual results to standard.
- Conduct spend analysis on all indirect and conversion costs and analyze lead times to identify areas for improvement and loss reduction.
- Act as the go-to resource for analysis on plant spending.
Inventory and Financial Compliance
- Lead the financial compliance process at the plant, including cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and reporting accuracy.
- Review inventory transactions and adjustments, and investigate discrepancies through to root cause.
- Support the monthly close process, including accruals, inventory valuation, and account reconciliations for the plant.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records as required.
- Provide plant data and analysis to support tracking of state incentives and tax credits.
Forecasting, Reporting and Capital
- Support the monthly forecast process, including plant P&L, cash, and inventory inputs, in partnership with the Corporate Controller.
- Track execution of the current year’s capital spending and support the 5-year capital expenditure plan, including project tracking for plant build-out efforts.
- Build out weekly and monthly reporting structures and KPI scorecards with the team.
- Prepare clear presentations of financial results for plant stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Consolidate plant metrics and integrate them into the corporate reporting structure.
Systems
- Learn and develop processes in our ERP system (NetSuite) to ensure accuracy in BOMs, costing, and financial reporting.
- Partner with IT and corporate finance to resolve reporting and system issues and maintain the integrity of financial reporting.
Plant Leadership and Collaboration
- Work closely with department heads and managers to understand their needs and drive the business forward.
- Hold teams accountable to the numbers by raising issues directly and following through until they are resolved.
- Serve as a plant leader to develop and foster a positive, inclusive culture, including daily manufacturing GEMBA walks.
- Coach production and plant employees to understand key KPIs and financial metrics.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong cost accounting knowledge, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, with NetSuite experience preferred.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to challenge numbers and reporting.
- Assertive, confident communicator who is comfortable pushing back, asking tough questions, and holding teams accountable.
- Hands-on, self-directed working style with the discipline to monitor results daily.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to resolve reporting and financial system issues.
- Passion for manufacturing and willingness to support cross-functional teams while designing robust financial processes.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a manufacturing environment, with a background in cost accounting.
- Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite preferred.
- Preferred: food or CPG manufacturing experience and experience supporting capital project tracking for a plant build-out.
Work Environment
- Exposure to both the office setting and a food manufacturing facility.
- Significant amount of time working at a computer station.
- Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor.
- Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas, where moving parts and machinery are present.
