Position Summary

One of the largest and fastest growing steel fabricators in United States has an exciting opportunity for a Plant Controller based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We are seeking a hands-on, driven, energetic, collaborative, and initiative-taking financial leader to work closely with the plant operations team, the corporate finance group, and be a partner in growing the business. 

This position will manage financial reporting, prepare forecasts and budgets, perform financial analysis, and maintain an effective internal control environment for a $70M+ plant. The Plant Controller will be responsible for reliable and timely financial reporting, analyzing return on capital expenditure projects, managing controls across plant operations, and providing analytical and problem-solving support for operational performance as an integral member of the plant management team. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

This individual will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and will have primary responsibilities as follows:

o    Key member and primary financial advisor to the plant management team.

o    Effectively manage the plant’s accounting and financial reporting function.

o    Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including review of balance sheet account reconciliations, percentage-of-completion project accounting, and ensure effectiveness of the control environment.

o    Reporting and analysis of financial operating results, including plant and project performance, and interface with department heads in identifying key operational issues to improve business performance and operating results.

o    Prepare weekly dashboard reporting of key performance indicators together with the sales, project management, and operations teams.

o    Participate in plant continuous improvement projects and analysis of capital expenditure opportunities.

o    Assist with preparation of annual budget and monthly rolling forecasts, including preparation of support schedules and financial analysis of projections.

o    Execute enhancements for processing and recording the company’s financial transactions to improve efficiency and internal controls.

o    Support COO and CFO with various special projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

o    Strong problem solving, analytical, accounting knowledge, and communication skills.

o    At least 10 years of related work experience in the accounting and finance field, preferably with manufacturing or construction industry experience.

o    Proficient knowledge of accounting principles, forecasting, variance analysis, ROI analysis, and percentage of completion, project accounting. 

o    Understanding of internal control design and operation for key business processes 

o    Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, AI tools, and financial reporting and ERP systems.

Education Requirements

o    Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field  

o    MBA and/or CPA would be a plus
