Position Overview
Pathway Talent Partners is partnering with a growing specialty contractor to identify a Payroll Specialist to support its payroll operations. This position will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for both field and office employees while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable labor regulations.
This is a full-time temporary opportunity with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Process weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
- Review and validate employee timecards, job costing allocations, and payroll deductions.
- Ensure accurate calculation of regular, overtime, and other wage payments.
- Audit payroll data for completeness and accuracy prior to processing.
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
Construction & Field Payroll Support
- Track and reconcile employee hours by project and job site.
- Assist with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting, as applicable.
- Review union payroll information and ensure accurate benefit and deduction processing.
- Partner with project managers and field supervisors to resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Support labor compliance reporting and documentation requests.
Employee & Administrative Support
- Respond to employee payroll-related questions and inquiries.
- Process new hire payroll setup, status changes, and terminations.
- Administer garnishments, tax withholdings, and direct deposit updates.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation.
- Support audits and other payroll-related projects as needed.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience.
- Experience working in a construction, contracting, manufacturing, or project-based environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, wage calculations, and payroll best practices.
- Experience with payroll software and timekeeping systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or union payroll processing.
- Familiarity with job costing and project-based accounting environments.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation is a plus.
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll operations.
