Role Overview

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for the fundamental aspects of the company's financial recordkeeping, including recording financial transactions, managing accounts and account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

The role ensures accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions, researches and resolves discrepancies, and responds to internal and external inquiries, providing instruction as needed so users understand the processes tied to their financial transactions.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Ensures accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions, which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll
  2. Conducts regular account reconciliation for assigned area to assure accuracy of records
  3. Researches and resolves straightforward accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner. Elevates more complex issues for resolution
  4. Follows appropriate policies and procedures to assure the company maintains compliance with all state and federal laws as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  5. Responds to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner. Provides individual instruction as needed to ensure users understand processes related to their financial transactions
  6. Cross-trains in other areas

Required Background

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience, preferred
  2. 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred
  3. Basic accounting knowledge
  4. Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
  5. Effective written and verbal communication skills
  6. Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  7. Able to analyze and resolve basic issues
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  9. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. required
  10. Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
