About the Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented Fiscal Officer I (Accounting Assistant) to support the financial operations of a county human services department. This long-term temporary opportunity offers meaningful work in a professional government environment and is ideal for an accounting professional seeking a flexible part-time schedule.

The successful candidate will assist with financial reporting, budget monitoring, contract oversight, and fiscal analysis while supporting programs that directly impact the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with financial operations and fiscal administration activities

  • Monitor contracts and track expenditures against approved budgets

  • Analyze spending trends and identify budget variances

  • Maintain accounting records, spreadsheets, ledgers, and financial documentation

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports

  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and fiscal planning

  • Track revenues, expenditures, and funding allocations

  • Support financial reporting requirements for county, state, and federal agencies

  • Review fiscal information from contracted providers and funded programs

  • Provide technical assistance regarding fiscal reporting and compliance

  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field with at least one year of accounting or budget experience
    OR

  • Associate degree in a business-related field with three years of accounting or budget experience
    OR

  • Five years of bookkeeping experience with accounting coursework
    OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting, bookkeeping, or budget administration experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience preparing financial reports

  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial forecasting

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
