The Strategic Tax Operations & Workforce Transformation Leader designs and builds the Tax workforce of the future. Reporting to the Tax Business Unit Operations Leader, this leader is accountable for workforce design, process and role redesign, capability building, implementation leadership, and sustained adoption across the Tax business. This role connects Operations, Tax Technology, Learning & Development, Resource Management, Growth Enablement, Business Analysis, Quality & Risk Management, and practice leadership to capture the benefits of AI and automation while protecting client relationships, professional judgment, quality, and the employee experience. Job Responsibilities Workforce of the Future Strategy Own the future-state Tax workforce model, including how professionals and AI share work across compliance, review, advisory, and client service. Define the roles, skills, capacity model, and career paths required in an AI-enabled delivery environment. Build and implement a practical transition plan from the current workforce model to the future state without disrupting quality or client relationships. Process and Role Redesign Lead end-to-end redesign of priority Tax processes, from intake and staffing through delivery, review, billing, and client interaction. Redesign roles so professionals spend more time on judgment, relationships, growth, and higher-value work. Translate future-state concepts into implemented workflows, decision rights, role charters, operating standards, and measurable changes in practice. Training and Capability Building Develop a future-focused curriculum across tax technical skills, professional skills, client service, leadership, technology, and AI fluency. Define capability expectations by level and role, then partner with Learning & Development and practice leaders to deliver the curriculum. Measure whether learning changes behavior, adoption, quality, and business performance. AI Enablement and Adoption Drive practice-side adoption of AI, automation, and enabling technology so the business realizes measurable capacity and margin benefits. Partner with Tax Technology on use-case prioritization, requirements, pilots, rollout, and continuous improvement. Preserve appropriate professional judgment, review, risk management, and client connection as automation expands. Change Enablement Own the change-management approach for Tax workforce transformation and equip leaders to communicate the reason for change, expectations, and benefits. Sequence initiatives to reduce change fatigue and establish feedback loops that identify adoption barriers early. Requirements Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional credential preferred. 15+ years of experience in professional services operations, transformation, workforce strategy, organizational design, or a comparable complex organization. Demonstrated record of implementing large-scale change, not only designing it, across a matrixed, multi-region environment. Strong understanding of professional services delivery economics and operating models, with practical fluency in AI and automation applied to knowledge work. Sufficient Tax or professional services credibility to influence senior practitioners and leaders. Ability to align operations, technology, learning, people, and practice leadership around a common roadmap without relying solely on direct authority. Builder and implementer mindset with a bias for action, measurable outcomes, sound judgment, and comfort operating through ambiguity. Ability to balance innovation, quality, risk, client relationships, and employee experience. Preferred Qualifications Transformation, change-management, workforce-design, or technology credentials. Experience redesigning professional-services delivery models and roles for an AI-enabled environment. Experience partnering with technology, Learning & Development, Resource Management, Operations, Quality & Risk Management, and senior practice leaders. “Armanino" is the brand name under which Armanino LLP and Armanino Advisory LLC, independently owned entities, provide professional services in an alternative practice structure in accordance with law, regulations, and professional standards.
