The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing Valley Medical's financial operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all accounting and financial reporting activities. This position manages the organization’s general accounting functions, including financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, oversight of accounts payable and receivable, audit coordination, and internal controls. The Accounting Manager supports budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. Working collaboratively with leadership and department managers, this role provides financial analysis and guidance to support operational decision-making, promotes continuous improvement of financial processes and systems, and may supervise accounting staff to ensure effective and efficient departmental operations.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee general ledger activity, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Ensure timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections
- Monitor cash flow and maintain appropriate financial controls
Payroll & Compliance Support
- Collaborate with HR/payroll to ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting as it relates to key internal and external financial requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (including Vermont), and healthcare-specific regulations
- Maintain knowledge of applicable accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements
Audit & Internal Controls
- Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets
- Identify process improvements and enhance financial procedures
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and optimize accounting systems and reporting tools
- Ensure data integrity across financial platforms
- Recommend and implement efficiencies to improve accuracy and workflow
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and support accounting or finance staff, as applicable
- Work collaboratively with department leaders to support financial planning and operational goals
- Communicate financial information clearly to leadership and stakeholders
Physical Requirements
- Primarily sedentary work involving computer and desk tasks
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs (files, office materials)
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience; healthcare or residential treatment experience preferred
Experience
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with accounting software and payroll/HRIS systems (Paycom experience a plus)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
