Highlights Healthcare is seeking a passionate and dedicated Human Resource Generalist / Payroll Specialist to join our corporate support team. Our team supports our ABA therapy Learning Centers and Hospice agencies throughout the southeast.

This is a full-time on-site role for a Human Resources Generalist / Payroll Specialist located in Mooresville, NC. The Human Resources Generalist / Payroll Specialist manages and supports human resources, recruiting, employee records, compensation and benefits, and payroll functions. The role helps ensure HR procedures and payroll processes run accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable requirements. The position maintains employee and payroll records, supports full-cycle recruiting, administers payroll activities, responds to employee and management inquiries, and contributes to a healthy, well-organized workplace.

Core Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Prepare, review, maintain, and update personnel and payroll records for employees, including new hire information and changes in employment status.

Manage and process payroll accurately and on time, including payroll deductions and related adjustments.

Manage garnishments and support compliance with payroll tax regulations and payroll requirements.

Research and resolve payroll-related discrepancies and provide responsive support to management and employees regarding payroll inquiries.

Prepare and review compensation and benefits packages and inform employees about additional benefits for which they may be eligible.

Implement and execute recruiting, retention, training, and development plans.

Support the full-cycle recruiting process, forecast hiring needs, and help ensure recruiting activities run smoothly.

Plan quarterly and annual performance review sessions.

Maintain organization charts, detailed job descriptions, and salary records.

Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures throughout the organization.

Monitor departmental budgets as assigned.

Process employee inquiries and respond in a timely, professional manner.

Stay current on and comply with changes in labor legislation and payroll processes.

Maintain credentialing for appropriate field staff as necessary.

Qualifications / Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; preferred for the payroll function.

Proven work experience as an HR Specialist, HR Generalist, Clinical/Corporate Recruiter, Payroll Specialist, or similar role.

Proficiency in payroll administration, payroll processing, and payroll services.

Strong knowledge of garnishments and payroll taxes.

Solid understanding of labor legislation and payroll processes.

Hands-on experience with human resources information technology and payroll software/systems.

Knowledge of applicant tracking systems and familiarity with full-cycle recruiting.

Experience with ADP Workforce Now and HCHB preferred.

Excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Strong problem-solving skills, high productivity, and leadership ability.

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality and integrity.

Experience in a healthcare or clinical setting is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform general office duties to support Highlights Healthcare daily operations.

Suggest improvements and changes to processes and policies to improve productivity or customer satisfaction.

Maintain industry knowledge to keep skills current and develop professionally.

May be required to be available after hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
