Grant Accountant

GRANT ACCOUNTANT 

The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Grant Accountant to join our Finance team. This role provides financial management and accounting support for grant-funded programs, with a primary focus on Head Start and Early Learning initiatives that serve children and families throughout the Kansas City region.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This position plays an important role in supporting the financial operations of complex grant-funded programs. While much of the work is performed independently, success depends on strong collaboration with program staff, vendors, and grant partners.

No two days are exactly alike. Grant cycles, program needs, reimbursement requests, vendor questions, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements create a dynamic environment that combines routine accounting responsibilities with analytical and problem-solving work.

This position reports to the Grant Manager and works closely with Head Start and Early Learning program leadership.

Core Responsibilities 

Grant & Financial Management

• Support financial administration for multiple grant-funded programs.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
• Assist with grant budgets, budget modifications, reimbursements, and fiscal monitoring.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation in compliance with grant requirements.

Grant Reporting & Compliance

• Assist with reimbursement requests and financial reporting to grantor agencies.
• Support grant compliance activities, audits, monitoring reviews, and annual reporting requirements.
• Prepare documentation related to federal and state grants, including financial and administrative reports.
• Help ensure expenditures align with grant budgets, regulations, and agency policies.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Support

• Review invoices and process accounts payable transactions.
• Serve as a resource for vendors and internal staff regarding payments, purchasing, and reimbursements.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies and payment questions.
• Build positive relationships with vendors, program staff, and community partners.

Financial Analysis & Problem Solving

• Analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues.
• Investigate variances and reconciliation concerns.
• Support decision-making through accurate financial analysis and reporting.
• Leverage Excel and financial systems to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Benefits of the job: 

• Estimate starting salary 65-75k; final offer will be based on experience and qualifications
• Flexible work schedule, working 3 days per week in person and up to 2 days per week from home; evening availability (5-7pm) is required once a month
