Financial Controller
Malton Electric is seeking a Financial Controller to join our team in Virginia, Minnesota. As a trusted provider of electric motor sales, service, repair, and engineered solutions, Malton Electric is committed to delivering exceptional quality and customer service across the mining and industrial sector. The Financial Controller will play a critical role in maintaining the company's financial health by overseeing accounting operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting strategic decision-making, and providing accurate financial reporting. This position partners closely with leadership to drive operational efficiency, manage financial risk, and support the company's continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all internal accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and key performance indicators as well as analyze financial performance, operating costs, and profitability to provide recommendations that support business objectives and improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial risks while identifying opportunities to improve processes and strengthen financial performance.
- Maintain and build relationships with vendors, customers, financial institutions, and tax professionals to ensure timely and accurate financial transactions. Review and negotiate terms with vendors as needed.
- Fully utilize the existing operational software (Motorbase) to organize and update all finances to ensure payments are made in a timely manner and required reports are easily accessible.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow analyses.
- Coordinate annual audits and assist with tax reporting and regulatory filings.
- Stay informed of accounting standards, financial regulations, and industry trends to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably in mechanical engineering, industrial services, or a related industry.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and present financial information.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
