About the Opportunity
The Financial Analyst supports the annual tuition and fee
setting process, the UNC System all-funds budget process, system strategic
financial metrics, and other ad-hoc reporting needs for the Financial Planning
and Analysis Division. Responsibilities include duties in the following areas:
Tuition and Fees:
The position is
responsible for supporting the annual tuition and fee setting process,
including collecting campus tuition and fee proposals, reviewing and analyzing
campus submissions, supporting the System Office working group, and supporting
the Board of Governors Committee on Budget & Finance's oversight of the
Tuition and Fees process. Other ad-hoc analysis may include exploring tuition
and fee policies at peer institutions, systems
and national trends, and providing data-based analysis and guidance.
All Funds Budget:
The position is
responsible for supporting the all-funds budget process, which may include
collecting the proposed all-funds budgets from institutions, supporting the
Committee on Budget & Finance's oversight and enactment of the budgetary
process, and providing data-based analysis of the budgets, including
identifying budgetary goals and comparisons to
past performance.
Ad-hoc Reporting and
Special Projects:
The analyst will
support the Financial Planning and Analysis team's ad-hoc reporting needs,
including using Finance Data Mart
(FDM) resources to evaluate data. The analyst will explore possibilities for
using FDM for the purpose of dashboards and reports. Special projects could
include supporting system budget priorities, special funding sources, and analyzing
financial trends at UNC institutions or nationally.
This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least three days per week onsite at the Dillon building in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. The UNC System is a treasured public institution dedicated to serving the people of North Carolina through world-class teaching, research, and community engagement. Today, nearly 250,000 students are enrolled in our 16 universities across the state and at the NC School of Science and Mathematics. System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.
About the Team
The Finance and Administration division works as staff to the Board of Governors, president, and chief financial officer to support the financial management of the UNC System. This includes the areas of budget development and execution, facilities, property, capital construction, debt management, procurement policy, tuition and fee development, efficiency efforts, and analysis of policy changes with a fiscal impact.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's degree in accounting, banking, finance, business administration, economics, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Competencies
Must have a working knowledge of Excel, be detail-oriented, possess strong communication skills, have the ability to
multi-task and problem solve, possess excellent organizational skills, and must have the ability to work independently
and meet deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are needed to compile, examine, and reconcile complex
financial data across financial systems. Knowledge of a broad range of technology, financial systems, and software packages. High attention to detail is essential.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Two years of professional experience in finance, data analysis, and/or higher education; or; a master's degree in business administration, economics, public administration, or other related field.
The ideal candidate would work well through ambiguity, thrive in a changing environment, and possess excellent communication skills with various levels of management - both internal and external. In addition, prospective employee will participate in cross-departmental projects and be a proactive team member/resource for other analysts on the team and across the entity. Candidate should possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance various projects simultaneously and understand prioritizations.
