We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

As Finance Director, Canada, you will report directly to the VP Finance, North America. This role is being created as part of the North American transformation, establishing dedicated Canadian and US organizations under a new North American business group. The Finance Director will provide financial leadership for the Canadian business, partnering closely with the broader North American leadership team to drive financial performance and support the growth and development of the Canadian organization

GETTING TO KNOW THE POSITION 

One of the strategic orientations that Nexans pursues consists in capturing growth and differentiating its offer by escalading the value chain from the production of cables towards the provision of innovative cable systems and services and solutions to better address the current and future needs of our partners and customers.

The Finance Director, Canada is responsible for driving the financial performance of the Canadian Business Unit in alignment with NAM objectives. The role oversees financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and controls, while ensuring compliance with Group policies and supporting sound business decisions. The Finance Director also leads and develops the Canadian finance team, partnering with the business to optimize financial performance and resources.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

Financial Strategy & Business Performance

• Directs and oversees the financial activities of the Canadian organization, ensuring strong financial performance, sound governance, and alignment with Nexans Group and North American objectives.
• Provides strategic financial leadership and insight to support business decisions, including investments, acquisitions, divestitures, capital allocation, pension matters, and other strategic initiatives.
• Provides timely and accurate financial analysis, reporting, forecasts, and business indicators to support decision-making by Canadian and North American senior management, Nexans Corporate, and COMEX.
• Acts as a strategic business partner to the leadership team and operational functions, providing financial expertise and challenging assumptions to support profitable and sustainable growth.
• Monitors business and market trends, including relevant competitor and economic developments, and provides financial insights to support the organization's positioning and decision-making.
• Provides financial advice and support in the negotiation and review of strategic commercial contracts and agreements, including contracts with significant financial, commodity, or foreign exchange exposure.

Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting

• Leads the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with business objectives and Group requirements.
• Continually improves the budgeting and forecasting process by strengthening financial discipline and developing the financial understanding of department and business leaders.
• Oversees the monitoring of financial performance against budget, forecast, and business objectives, identifying risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
• Provides financial analysis and recommendations to support cost optimization and improve overall business performance.

Financial Reporting & Governance

• Defines and oversees the monthly consolidated reporting process, including sales, P&L, MMR, and other key financial indicators for the Canadian organization and North American Business Group.
• Ensures the timely and accurate preparation and consolidation of financial reports, management analysis, forecasts, and financial outlooks.
• Ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, Group policies, IFRS, and Canadian accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Establishes, implements, and maintains appropriate financial policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity and reliability of financial information.
• Represents Finance in internal and external audits and ensures timely follow-up and resolution of audit findings.

Cash, Treasury, Tax & Risk Management

• Develops and implements strategies to optimize cash flow, working capital, liquidity, and overall financial performance.
• Oversees treasury activities, banking relationships, credit policies, and other areas impacting the organization's cash position and financial resilience.
• Ensures, in coordination with Nexans Corporate and relevant internal stakeholders, compliance with applicable Canadian tax requirements and monitors changes in legislation that may impact the business.
• Identifies, assesses, and manages key financial and business risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures and controls are in place.
• Provides financial guidance on matters involving foreign exchange, commodity exposure, financing, and other financial risks, as applicable.

Finance Transformation & Continuous Improvement

• Leads initiatives to optimize financial processes, strengthen cost control, improve reporting efficiency, and increase the automation and digitalization of Finance activities.
• Drives continuous improvement of Finance systems, processes, and controls to improve the overall efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of financial operations.
• Ensures that Finance policies, procedures, and systems evolve in line with the organization's changing business needs and Group requirements.

Finance Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness

• Leads and develops the Finance organization, ensuring appropriate capabilities, performance, succession, and professional development to support the organization's financial objectives.
• Continuously assesses the effectiveness and organizational structure of the Finance function and implements improvements to enhance efficiency and business support.
• Promotes a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, compliance, and business partnership within the Finance organization.

North American & Group Collaboration

• Supports and contributes to North American strategic initiatives and synergies, including cross-functional initiatives defined as NAM priorities.
• Collaborates closely with Nexans Corporate, North American leadership, and other Finance leaders to ensure alignment of financial strategies, reporting, controls, and business priorities.
• Provides financial support and analysis for major North American and Group initiatives, ensuring appropriate financial evaluation, risk assessment, and follow-up.
• Ensures effective communication of financial performance, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.

You will be expected to:

• Maximize the Canadian BU profits through an adequate administration of expenses, costs, placement of funds and use of resources.
• Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasts, and insights to support business decisions.
• Improve financial performance through strong planning, cost control, and working capital management.
• Ensure compliance with Nexans policies, accounting standards, internal controls, and Canadian regulations.
• Build a strong and effective Finance team with the right capabilities to support the business.
• Drive continuous improvement and strengthen Finance processes, systems, and business support.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE ?

KEY COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS

• Professional degree in Accounting and/or related fields
• Postgraduate degree / Master Finance or MBA
• Minimum 7 years of experience directing financial areas, or developing financial processes
• Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
• Knowledge in the SAP/BI System
• Financial reporting/consolidation
