Electric Power Controller Leader

Summary

Duties

• You will operate, maintain and repair all assigned electrical generating equipment such as: Exciters, alternators, DC generators and control circuits, voltage controls, battery backup system, switchgear and transformers.
• You will ensure the care, inspection, certification and replacement of all safety equipment.
• You will perform simple repairs to the high voltage distribution system such as cutouts, fuses, lightning arrestors, opening and closing circuit switches, etc.
• You will advise and implement the power plant maintenance program, interprets work instructions from the Utilities Supervisor.
• You will perform leadership duties by demonstrating proper operating methods and explains any unusual steps and processes.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CA Class C license or higher.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Electric Power Controller Leader without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as 1) Perform as a working leader for a group of journeyman Electric Power Controllers and High Voltage Electricians. Perform leadership duties and explain any unusual steps and processes. Crew supervisor and senior person in response to direct emergency services. 2) Possess journey level knowledge and skill in controlling the generation or distribution of electric power in power generating plants, power distribution centers, and substations. 3) Operation of power generation and distribution systems supporting a myriad of industrial and residential operations on the Naval base. Operates control panels that allow remote starting of diesel engine powered generators as well as monitoring commercial power and conversion to auxiliary power systems. 4) Monitoring of voltage and amperage and make exacting adjustments to the system to assure adequate power for load demands. 5) Skill in reading/analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal conditions such as, circuit overloads, improper line voltages, or equipment temperature; and skill to determine the causes of these abnormal conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls.

Additional information

This position is being recruited for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and may subsequently be realigned under the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC).
This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Entitled to Remote Allowance at $10 per day.
Travel by military or commercial aircraft, boats, and ships may be required.
This position requires rotating shift work
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
