Job Summary
WC Bradley’s Outdoor Brands Division is seeking a Director, Planning & Procurement to own fiber sourcing, indirect and packaging procurement, production planning, and inventory strategy across Domestic Operations pellet plants at Hope, AR and Peebles, OH, and third-party pellet manufacturing. This role is accountable for delivered fiber cost per finished ton, MRO and packaging consumable cost, production planning discipline, supplier capacity and qualification, and inventory accuracy of raw materials, spare parts, and packaging components. The role partners with the Sr. Director, NA Distribution on OTIF and inventory accuracy, with the Director, Pellet Operations on production sequencing and fiber yield, and with Manager, EHSS and Sourcing team on supplier and contractor compliance.
This position can be based in Hope, AR, Peebles, OH, Scottsdale, AZ, or remote. The travel requirements for this position are 25-50%.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic & Functional Leadership
- Lead Planning & Procurement for Domestic Operations, including fiber sourcing, indirect and packaging procurement, production planning, and inventory strategy across the Hope, AR and Peebles, OH facilities.
- Translate operational strategy into annual sourcing, planning, and cost-reduction initiatives with defined ownership, milestones, and performance measures.
- Advise Domestic Operations leadership on cost-per-ton performance, supply risks, mitigation strategies, and capital planning.
- Drive cross-functional alignment on supply plans, inventory targets, service performance, and operational priorities.
- Develop scalable processes, organizational capability, and team depth.
Fiber Sourcing & Cost Optimization
- Own delivered fiber cost per finished ton and drive performance against budget targets.
- Identify savings opportunities and implement actions to close cost gaps.
- Expand and manage the supplier network to improve supply security, competitiveness, and capacity for growth.
- Establish sourcing strategies and purchasing guidelines by species, form, and plant location.
- Optimize form, freight, and sizing decisions to ensure reliable, cost-effective fiber supply.
- Negotiate supplier terms, monitor performance, and evaluate sourcing alternatives, including in-house chipping and capital investment opportunities.
Production Planning & IBP Execution
- Lead production planning for internally produced and third-party manufactured pellet products using MTS/MTO models.
- Align fiber procurement with production schedules, inventory requirements, and customer demand.
- Develop capacity models that support operational performance and growth initiatives.
- Contribute to executive dashboards and monthly IBP/S&OP processes with cost, service, and production metrics.
- Maintain critical planning assumptions related to yield, moisture, consumption, and inventory.
- Support production scheduling and third-party manufacturing continuity.
MRO, Packaging & Inventory Management
- Deliver annual cost-per-ton reduction targets for MRO and packaging consumables.
- Standardize suppliers, pricing, contract terms, and category management practices.
- Partner with plant teams to establish critical spare parts strategies and stocking levels.
- Set inventory policies for raw materials, finished goods, MRO, and consumables that balance service levels with working capital efficiency.
- Improve inventory accuracy, cycle counting discipline, and internal controls across plants and distribution centers.
- Support OTIF service performance through effective inventory and supply planning.
Systems, Data & Performance Management
- Advance procurement and planning capabilities through analytics-driven decision making and process optimization.
- Serve as a key stakeholder for SAP Inventory Management stabilization and continuous process improvement.
- Own KPI governance for sourcing, cost, supplier performance, yield, and inventory accuracy.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions to address cost, supply, and service variances.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead and develop procurement and operations process teams while building succession and analytical capability.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, integrity, and data-driven decision making.
- Build strong supplier and partner relationships while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field.
- Sr. Manager level: 7+ years of progressive experience in procurement, planning, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment, including direct people leadership.
- Director level: 10+ years of the above, including accountability for multi-site sourcing spend and production planning, and experience leading managers and influencing at the executive level.
- Wood fiber procurement experience in pellet, panel, paper, or biomass manufacturing is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated raw material or commodity sourcing experience, including supplier qualification, negotiation, and category strategy development.
- Proven results in production planning and master scheduling (MTS and MTO) and in capacity modeling.
- Experience managing indirect, MRO, and packaging categories, including terms standardization and supplier performance management.
- Working knowledge of inventory management practices, including safety stock, cycle counting, and accuracy governance.
- Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system.
- Strong financial acumen, including P&L management, landed-cost modeling and ROI evaluation.
- Excellent communication, organizational leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel to Hope, Peebles, 3rd party suppliers, and distribution locations as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Experience leading or maturing IBP/S&OP processes in manufacturing operations.
- Experience deploying or maturing SAP IM and EWM in a production and distribution environment.
- Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing certification.
- Advanced analytical and cost modeling capability, including data governance and exposure to AI-enabled sourcing or planning optimization.
