Base pay in range will be determined by applicant’s skills and experience. Full-time associates in role are also eligible for an annual bonus incentive. Temporary associates are not benefits eligible but may participate in the company’s 401(k) program.

Responsibilities

The Director of Procurement will lead the Strategic Sourcing team in the development of sourcing strategies, negotiation, contracting, and successful execution of these strategies with the goal of achieving cost efficiencies in the total cost of goods and services, maintaining or improving quality and vendor service levels, and risk mitigation. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Procurement and is closely aligned with key stakeholders and senior level leaders in the organization and support of their strategies and processes while maximizing organization buying potential and savings opportunities. The Director must be able to interact in an efficient, professional, and responsive manner with all levels of associates, stakeholders, and suppliers.   

  1. Lead the development of sourcing strategies to ensure that contracts are put in place that meet the needs of 530+ communities, while providing synergy in process and savings. 
  2. Responsible for leading all sourcing activities such as the request for proposal process, negotiating with suppliers, vendor selection, contract creation, baseline and cost savings analysis, strategy approval.
  3. Leverage sourcing category expertise to provide market, supplier, and financial insights that drive best practices and optimize the overall sourcing strategy.
  4. Build and prioritize the annual sourcing pipeline plan based on contract expirations, business needs, and emerging opportunities, while developing project plans to ensure all project milestones are met on time.
  5. Lead and collaborate in cross-functional teams with Procurement Category Management and with business stakeholders and senior leadership team members in the development of sourcing strategies to ensure they meet business need.
  6. Lead, coach, and manage the performance of direct and indirect Sourcing associates, serving as a key liaison to senior leadership to ensure team alignment and success.
  7. Negotiate and implement national and regional contracts, related service level agreements (SLAs) and risk mitigation for a variety of categories.
  8. Partner on ad-hoc business initiatives routed to the Sourcing team, establishing new supplier contracts to support evolving organizational needs. Conduct annual spend analysis to evaluate opportunities for additional value creation for the business. 
  9. Ensure the sourcing process maintains proper compliance with Procurement team procedures, as well as, Brookdale policies, systems, and controls.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Master’s degree preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
CPSM preferred

Management/Decision Making

Knowledge and Skills
Has significant knowledge of an advanced discipline with a working knowledge of related fields.  Has significant knowledge of the organization, work environment and process.  Is a true champion, who can lead change with internal and external teams.  Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. Proven success sourcing food categories for a national, multi-location organization including; managing RFPs, vendor relationships, contract compliance, etc.  Ability to influence and partner with key internal and external stakeholders.  Strong analytical background-proficient in Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word.  Strong communication and project management skills. Research and data analysis-cost structure analysis.  Willing to make tough decisions and challenge conventional thinking.
