WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Develop and direct enterprise corporate tax strategies that support business objectives, optimize the company’s tax position, and maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international tax laws.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of corporate income tax returns, tax provisions, regulatory filings, and related disclosures, including tax matters affecting insurance entities.
  • Provide strategic leadership for tax accounting and reporting under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles, including provisions, deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and financial statement impacts.
  • Advise senior leaders and business partners on the tax implications, risks, opportunities, and financial impacts of business initiatives, transactions, investments, products, and enterprise projects.
  • Monitor changes in tax law, insurance regulation, accounting guidance, and regulatory expectations; recommend and lead corresponding changes to policies, processes, controls, and reporting practices.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, examiners, tax authorities, and regulators to support audits, examinations, inquiries, and resolution of complex tax matters.
  • Lead, coach, and develop tax professionals while building an engaged, collaborative, accountable team focused on technical excellence, process improvement, and enterprise partnership

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax, tax accounting, financial reporting, statutory accounting, public accounting, or related finance or accounting leadership.
  • 7-9 years of experience in the insurance industry, financial services, or another highly regulated environment, along with comprehensive knowledge of insurance company tax matters and statutory reporting considerations.
  • 7-9 years of leadership experience directing teams, managing complex initiatives, setting priorities, and influencing business partners across an enterprise environment.
  • Expert knowledge of corporate taxation, tax compliance, tax planning, and GAAP and statutory accounting principles, including application to tax provisions, regulatory filings, financial statements, and disclosures.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex tax, accounting, and regulatory matters to senior leaders, auditors, regulators, and business partners.
  • You promote a collaborative culture, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Ability to work in the home office in Omaha, NE three days a week.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in accounting, finance, taxation, business administration, law, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or another professional designation in accounting, finance, or tax.
  • Experience partnering with external auditors, tax authorities, regulatory examiners, senior leaders, and cross-functional partners on complex tax and reporting matters; Omaha-based candidates or candidates willing to relocate to Omaha are preferred.
