[HYBRID] Controller (accounting & management exp. req.) Description

Our client is a growing environmental services organization supporting a diverse portfolio of client programs across the country. Following the promotion of their Controller to VP of Finance, they are seeking a new Controller to join the team. In this role, you will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and a team of three supervisors. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, the ability to partner closely with operations, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment where processes and systems continue to evolve. The ideal candidate will bring experience in accrual-based accounting, team leadership, and managing accounting functions within a high-volume or project-based environment. Beyond the qualifications below, they are looking for someone who is resourceful, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement, someone who can lead by example, knows when to step in to support the team, and is comfortable influencing others and holding them accountable. [HYBRID] Controller (accounting & people management exp. req.) Responsibilities

•    Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team (3 direct reports) 
•    Oversee daily accounting operations and financial reporting activities
•    Manage general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
•    Provide oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
•    Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
•    Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
•    Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
•    Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives
•    Oversee accounting related to contracts, project-based revenue, and cost allocations
•    Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
•    Monitor program and operational financial performance
•    Drive process improvements across accounting and finance functions
•    Support system enhancements, automation efforts, and workflow efficiencies

[HYBRID] Controller (accounting & people management exp. req.) Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s Degree required
•    2+ years of people leadership experience required 
•    6+ years of progressive accounting experience required 
•    Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and financial reporting required
•    Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables & VLOOKUPs required
