Fractional Controller
This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys variety, client interaction, and strategic involvement. You'll partner with multiple construction companies, providing high-level financial oversight, operational guidance, and actionable insights while developing strong relationships with key stakeholders.
As a Fractional Controller, you'll have the opportunity to influence business strategy, improve financial processes, and help clients navigate the unique challenges of the construction industry.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the primary financial advisor and controller for multiple construction industry clients.
- Gain a deep understanding of each client's operations, goals, and financial challenges.
- Oversee month-end close processes and provide guidance to accounting teams.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, management reports, forecasts, projections, and financial models.
- Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners, executives, lenders, sureties, bonding companies, and other stakeholders.
- Support financial compliance activities, including audit, review, compilation, and tax-related processes.
- Stay current on construction industry trends, economic developments, and accounting best practices.
- Research and resolve complex accounting and financial issues.
- Mentor and support team members assigned to client engagements while promoting high-quality client service.
What Makes You a Strong Fit
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with construction industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting concepts, including:
- Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Job costing
- Variance analysis
- Labor burden calculations
- Billing and retainage
- Experience creating forecasts, budgets, projections, and financial models.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with construction-focused accounting software such as Foundation, Acumatica, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with clients and business leaders.
