Role Overview
We are looking for a Controller to join Client at a pivotal stage of growth. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this person will be the first dedicated accounting hire and will play a foundational role in building out the company's accounting function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in an early-stage environment and wants to own something meaningful.
Key Responsibilities
l Build and maintain the company's core accounting infrastructure, including chart of accounts, close processes, and internal controls
l Own the month-end and year-end close process, producing accurate and timely financial statements
l Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including oversight of bill payment systems and vendor relationships
l Develop and document accounting policies and procedures appropriate for a growing operations-stage company
l Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with the VP of Finance
l Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers
l Assist with financial reporting requirements for investors, lenders, and other stakeholders
l Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency across accounting workflows
What We're Looking For
l 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with some exposure to operational or manufacturing environments preferred
l Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
l Experience building or significantly improving accounting processes, not just maintaining them
l Comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced environment with limited resources and high expectations
l Proficiency with modern accounting software and tools; experience with Bill.com or similar AP platforms a plus
l CPA or equivalent experience welcomed but not required — we care more about what you've built than what letters follow your name
