Community Eldercare Services (CES) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and strategic Controller to oversee the accounting operations for our growing long-term care organization. The Controller plays a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes, and providing meaningful financial insight that supports informed decision-making across the organization. What You'll Do
As Controller, you will provide leadership across the accounting function while ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting for 17 operating entities and the management company.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead the monthly close process for all operating entities and the management company.
- Maintain a structured close calendar with clear ownership, deadlines, and accountability.
- Prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial statements and community-level reporting packages.
- Ensure accurate recording of revenue, payroll, benefits, agency labor, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and management allocations.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and promptly resolve outstanding items.
- Maintain a consistent and accurate chart of accounts across the organization.
Financial Analysis & Operational Partnership
- Provide practical financial reporting that clearly distinguishes controllable and non-controllable expenses.
- Prepare meaningful variance analyses tied to operational performance.
- Support monthly operating reviews with trend analysis, financial insights, and proactive identification of risks.
- Develop standardized reporting tools that improve efficiency and decision-making.
Management Company Accounting
- Oversee accounting for the management company, including management fee revenue, corporate overhead, shared services, allocations, and intercompany billing.
- Ensure corporate expenses are transparent, supportable, and consistently allocated.
- Prepare reports illustrating overhead trends and shared services performance.
- Support annual budgeting and ongoing financial forecasting.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Strengthen accounting controls and maintain compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Improve AP approval workflows, vendor controls, payroll review processes, bank reconciliations, ACH/check controls, and segregation of duties.
- Coordinate external audits, tax engagements, and other financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and proactively identify financial risks while recommending practical process improvements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop accounting and finance team members.
- Foster a service-oriented, accurate, responsive, and accountable finance culture.
- Partner closely with operations, clinical leadership, Human Resources, payroll, reimbursement, and revenue cycle teams.
- Communicate financial information clearly and confidently, including complex or sensitive variance discussions.
- Escalate issues proactively with recommendations and solutions.

RequirementsRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- Experience in healthcare, senior living, skilled nursing, or long-term care finance.
- Experience managing accounting teams within a multi-entity organization.
