Position Title: Controller Program/Dept: Agency Administration/ Finance & Accounting
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Classification: Regular, Full Time, Exempt, Hybrid

Position Summary: The Controller is responsible for various accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, strategic planning, and financial matters of Caminar and its various programs. The Controller will report to the CFO and oversee FP&A and Accounting team members. In addition, s/he will work with program managers and staff to ensure smooth accounting operation across the organization. The Controller will supervise and train FP&A, accounting and payroll team members. S/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Financial Management
- Directly supervise and develop FP&A, Accounting, and Payroll team.
- Foster collaboration between the FP&A, Accounting, and Billing functions.
- Serve as a financial advisor and strategic partner to Program Executives and operational leaders.
- Participate as a member of the management team in organizational planning and decision-making.
- Create and Implement Policies and Procedures.
FP&A Oversight
- Provide direct leadership and oversight for the annual budgeting and forecasting process by leading the FP&A team.
- Review financial models, projections, productivity metrics, and program performance analyses prepared by the FP&A team.
- Create financial and budgeting models including implementation of budgeting process as needed.
- Partner with Program Executives to analyze program results, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure development and monitoring of key performance indicators supporting organizational goals.
Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Direct month-end and year-end close activities.
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Supervise payroll operations and ensure accurate and timely tax filings. Act as a payroll backup.
- Prepare various reporting to management, federal, state, and local government funders, and foundations, including comparison to budget, billing analysis, project accounting, cash flow statements, and various ad-hoc reports.
- Prepare various legal and regulatory filing.
- Manage collection process with assistance from Program directors and accounting
- Solid understanding of fund accounting and revenue recognition with respect to grants, contributions, and various types of revenue.
Strategic Partnership
- Collaborate with the CFO on organizational strategic objectives, financial initiatives, and growth opportunities.
- Support evaluation of new programs, contracts, and operational initiatives through financial analysis and business case development.
- Assist the CFO in presenting financial information and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Partner with Program Executives to ensure financial resources are aligned with programmatic and organizational priorities.
Compliance & Audit
- Lead annual audit activities and coordinate with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with grant, contract, governmental, and nonprofit reporting requirements.
- Oversee cash management, treasury activities, and financial risk mitigation practices.

Qualifications
• 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and finance experience with at least 3+ years of leadership experience.
• Must be passionate about Caminar's mission.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited institution.
• Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Experience in governmental funding including HUD-funded housing, Medicare, Medi-Cal and other federal, state, and local governmental programs.
• Experience in recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining team members
• CPA Preferred
• Non-profit experience preferred
Position Requirements:
- Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to lift/carry objects up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.
- Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
- Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises.
- Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.
Essential Requirements:
- Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
- This position may require limited, occasional, or frequent driving. If required, a valid California driver license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current personal auto insurance is required by law. In addition, an MVR sufficient to obtain and maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.
- Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
- If applicable, a personal cell phone with reliable service and a data plan to use for business purposes.
- May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
