Controller
Arkansas Talent Group • Little Rock, Arkansas • Full Time
Posted on Fri, Jun 12, 2026
Arkansas Talent Group is partnering with a rapidly expanding Construction Company that delivers complex, multi-site projects and is investing heavily in its financial infrastructure. This growing organization needs a Controller who can own the accounting function, sharpen job-cost visibility, and help leadership make confident, data-driven decisions. This is a newly created position due to growth that will report directly to the CEO – a visionary in Arkansas with a terrific track record. This also has potential to step into a larger position as the company grows and build out a robust Accounting & Finance team.
You will step into a high-impact role where the fundamentals are in place, but there is significant runway to improve processes, upgrade systems, and build reporting that keeps pace with the company's growth. This is a true hands-on opportunity for a construction-minded accounting leader who wants to be close to the work, partner with operations, and build a best-in-class finance function in a business that is scaling fast.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable – Subcontractor & Vendor Payments
- Process and code all subcontractor and vendor invoices accurately and on time.
- Manage payment runs with proper job-cost coding at program line-item level.
- Maintain vendor and subcontractor files, including W-9s, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation.
- Build a scalable AP workflow as subcontractor volume grows across multiple programs.
Accounts Receivable – Milestone-Based Billing
- Prepare and submit draw requests to program administrators on the required schedule and in the required format.
- Tie draw submissions to approved scopes of work, cost line items, and supporting documentation.
- Track receivables by program and job and proactively follow up on outstanding draws and retainage.
Job Costing and Program Accounting
- Maintain accurate job cost records by program, project, and cost category.
- Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and preparation of work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
- Assist with certified payroll as needed.
Reconciliations and Monthly Close
- Own the monthly close process end-to-end.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and prepare supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review journal entries with appropriate documentation.
- Partner with leadership on bank reconciliations and overall cash oversight within an internal controls framework.
Reporting and Financial Statements
- Produce accurate, timely financial statements for leadership.
- Build job-level and program-level reporting that provides clear visibility into performance and margins.
- Prepare work papers and supporting schedules for the external CPA firm at year-end.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow modeling.
Systems, Controls, and Process Improvement
- Implement accounting tools and integrations tailored to job-cost construction accounting.
- Document and refine internal processes and controls that can withstand federal program audits.
- Lead the effort to bring the company's 2026 books current and pivot data from QuickBooks Online into a PSA / construction-focused accounting platform.
Ideal Profile
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful controller-level responsibilities
- Strong background in construction accounting, including job costing, retainage, draw requests, and WIP schedules
- Solid understanding of GAAP, especially percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Hands-on experience across AP, AR, reconciliations, and full financial statement preparation—not just oversight.
- Prior success in a small-company or startup environment where you build from the ground up and wear multiple hats.
- Low ego, high ownership mindset—you take pride in getting the details right and see foundational work as strategic.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-growing, mission-driven environment where priorities can shift as programs ramp up.
What This Role Offers:
- Strong Base salary
- Bonus eligibility
- Strong hybrid capabilities – willing to come to LR office 2-3 days a week
- Unlimited PTO and a leadership team that values balance and trust
- The opportunity to build the accounting function in a growth-stage company doing meaningful work
