Controller & Accounting Department Director
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Controller & Accounting Department Director is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the financial statements and being a trusted financial voice for investors in guiding the company’s financial strength. The Controller reports directly to the CEO and also provides financial leadership directly to the Finance Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures accuracy of financial statements overall.
- Takes responsibility that reported revenue numbers are correct, including write-offs, collections, accounts receivable, and contractual allowances.
- Annual budget preparation and review.
- Ensure compliance with financially related health care laws, audit, and bond covenants.
- Reviews and make recommendations targeted for profit and distributions.
- Reviews and provides guidance for debt structure and feasibility analysis.
- Provides agenda, schedule, and staff leadership of Finance Committee in coordination with Chairman and governing body.
- Prepare tax and financial statements.
- Perform system reconciliations between various systems (e.g., EMR system, accounting system, payroll system, inventory system, cash reconciliations).
- Maintains worksheets tracking buy-ins and buy-outs.
- Works with materials manager on inventory system to ensure valuation and reconciliation with financial statements.
- Provides financial reporting to department managers.
- Reviews invoice coding, payroll reports, monthly accruals, GAAP entries.
- Prepares work papers for audit.
- Manages cash flow for payment of invoices, payroll payments and distributions.
- Assists with leading departmental meetings, which help to formulate policies, procedures and program development.
- Assists with the training and development of employees to the department.
- Represents the department at monthly leadership meetings.
- Brings employee concerns and suggestions to meetings or directly to Human Resources.
- Responsible for communicating Ohio Valley initiatives, employee communication and safety concerns to the department.
- Assists with the continuous improvement of the most efficient workflows for the accounting department.
- Acts as a director for accounting department personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ progressive related effective and successful management experience.
- Ability to manage staff and work well at all levels of the organization.
- Very knowledgeable of GAAP and accounting rules.
- Willingness and ability to take ownership of numbers.
- Strong software skills: able to understand the inner workings of software and checking the validity and integrity of data that is reported via the software.
- Ability to work with tax professionals and to understand complex tax implications for the Hospital and investors given varied business strategies.
- Strong understanding of hospital entities, structures, and options.
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Provides data and reporting for government reporting, cost reports, for contracted services TSI, and Sports Medicine.

- CPA and equivalent public accounting or private company experience in similar field
