Responsibilities & Requirements

Provides executive leadership, direction, and coordination for the financial performance and stewardship of assigned hospital campus(es). Serves as the campus Chief Financial Officer and principal financial advisor to the Hospital President and campus executive team, translating system priorities into actionable campus plans and ensuring accountability for sustainable financial and operational results.

Partners across Kettering Health to integrate finance, operations, quality, growth, patient experience, and workforce considerations into executive decision-making. Advances consistent practices across the system while responding appropriately to the needs and operating realities of the assigned campus(es).

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Stewardship and Performance

• Provides executive leadership for the overall financial performance of assigned campus(es), including achievement of operating, capital, productivity, and cash-flow expectations.
• Leads development of annual operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans in collaboration with campus and system leaders.
• Evaluates and communicates financial and operational results, risks, opportunities, and corrective actions to the Hospital President, executive teams, and system finance leadership.
• Establishes a disciplined performance-management process using timely, accurate, and actionable reports, dashboards, benchmarks, and variance analysis.
• Monitors and helps improve key performance drivers, including volume, access and capacity, labor productivity, resource utilization, revenue integrity, reimbursement, cost structure, and capital deployment.
• Ensures compliance with approved budgets, financial policies, internal controls, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational expectations for fiscal integrity.
• Safeguards organizational assets and promotes responsible use of human, financial, physical, technological, and other resources.

Operational Partnership and Accountability

• Serves as a trusted financial and operational advisor to the Hospital President, campus executive team, physicians, and other leaders.
• Understands complex operating issues and partners with leaders to convert data into decisions, action plans, measurable results, and sustained accountability.
• Supports leaders in understanding financial expectations, productivity targets, operational drivers, and the actions required to perform within budget and strategic commitments.
• Builds financial acumen throughout the organization by explaining reports, analytics, business drivers, and tradeoffs in clear and practical terms.
• Provides executive leadership for assigned campus functions and leaders as determined by the organizational structure, while ensuring effective coordination across direct, indirect, and matrixed relationships.
• Creates an environment in which communication crosses campus and functional boundaries to advance organizational goals and consistent practices.

Strategy, Growth, and Business Development

• Participates in development and implementation of campus and system goals, strategic plans, and annual priorities consistent with the Mission, vision, and values of Kettering Health.
• Provides financial leadership for service-line planning, business development, physician alignment, partnerships, joint ventures, and other growth opportunities affecting assigned campus(es).
• Develops or evaluates business cases, financial projections, scenario analyses, and return-on-investment assessments to support executive decisions.
• Monitors market, payer, regulatory, technology, and healthcare-industry trends and translates emerging risks and opportunities into recommended actions.
• Supports implementation of approved initiatives and evaluates whether expected financial, operational, quality, and growth outcomes are achieved.

System Integration and Collaboration

• Works closely with system finance leadership and enterprise support leaders to ensure effective, coordinated delivery of services to assigned campus(es).
• Implements and interprets financial policies and participates in development of system-wide programs, policies, standards, and projects.
• Advances Kettering Health’s One Best Practice approach by promoting standard work, consistent analytics, shared accountability, and scalable solutions.
• Develops constructive relationships with regulators, auditors, payers, external partners, and other stakeholders as appropriate to the role.
• Makes recommendations to campus and system officers regarding actions necessary to maintain fiscal integrity, improve performance, and support organizational priorities.

Governance, Committees, and Community

• Participates in campus executive councils, system finance groups, operating reviews, and other governance forums appropriate to the role.
• Chairs or supports campus financial, operating, productivity, labor, capital, space, or other performance-review processes as assigned.
• Serves on boards, committees, foundations, joint ventures, or affiliated-entity governance bodies as assigned.
• Participates in professional, civic, and service organizations as appropriate to strengthen community relationships and promote the goodwill and positive image of Kettering Health.
• Maintains confidentiality, demonstrates sound judgment, and communicates effectively with boards, medical staff, executives, employees, community members, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field.

Required: Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare finance, including significant responsibility for hospital financial performance, budgeting, operational analysis, and executive decision support.

Demonstrated: Success building collaborative relationships, leading performance improvement, communicating with executive and governance audiences, and directing complex planning and implementation efforts.

Preferred: CPA, FHFMA, CHFP, or another relevant professional certification.

Preferred: Experience within an integrated health system, multi-campus environment, physician enterprise, partnership, or joint-venture structure.

Ongoing: Participation in appropriate continuing education and maintenance of current healthcare-finance knowledge.

Skills and Knowledge

• Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement, government regulations, budgeting, capital planning, financial reporting, analytics, internal controls, and management principles.
• Ability to interpret complex financial and operational information, identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and communicate recommendations clearly.
• Strong executive presence, human-relations skills, and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence across direct and matrixed relationships.
• Ability to respond appropriately to market and organizational change, balance risk and opportunity, make timely decisions, and lead implementation.
• Positive, service-oriented approach to people and problems, with consistent discretion, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
