The Chief Financial Officer at Greater St. Louis, Inc. will serve as a hands-on financial and operational leader for an organization with approximately $27 million in annual revenue, projected to grow to $40 million over the next five years, supported by a small, collaborative staff. 

This role combines accounting leadership, financial planning and analysis, operational oversight, and executive partnership. Working closely with the CEO, COO, board, and staff, the CFO will help strengthen financial clarity, improve accountability, support sound stewardship of charitable resources, and guide better decision making across the organization.

 This is an excellent opportunity for a senior or a manager in public accounting ready for a broader leadership role, or for an experienced nonprofit finance leader who enjoys balancing accounting, planning, compliance, and business partnership.

What you do

•        Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to align resources with mission priorities, strategic objectives, and support long term sustainability.

•        Interpret financial performance, budget variances, and spending outcomes to guide leadership decisions, strengthen stewardship of nonprofit resources.

•        Advise the CEO, COO, leadership team, and Finance Committee to influence strategic planning, resource allocation, and mission aligned investment decisions.

•        Direct accounting operations, financial close, and financial reporting practices to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial information.

•        Manage cash flow, reserves, and financial resources to maintain stability to protect organizational stability and support ongoing mission delivery.

•        Oversee restricted and unrestricted fund accounting to ensure proper stewardship, donor intent compliance, nd sound use of charitabe resources.

•        Lead audit preparation, tax reporting, and required regulatory filings to maintain compliance, protect nonprofit status, and reinforce stakeholder confidence.

•        Establish and direct the financial oversight of grants, contracts, and donor restricted funding to ensure compliant use of funds, accurate reporting, and strong funder confidence

•        Partner with program and development leaders on budgets, proposals, and funding strategies to align financial commitments with program goals, donor expectations and organizational priorities.

•        Oversee day to day business operations and process improvements to strengthen execution, accountability, and cross functional effectiveness.

•        Build financial capability across staff and budget owners to strengthen budget ownership, improve decision making, and embed stewardship throughout the organization

•        Present financial insights, recommendations, and risk considerations to the board, committees, and external stakeholders to support governance, credibility, and trust.

What you will bring

•        Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

•        Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

•        Five or more years of public accounting experience.

•        Strong accounting, reporting, budgeting, and audit experience.

•        Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences.

•        Nonprofit, grant, or mission driven experience is helpful.
