The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and the company’s senior financial and capital strategy executive, with broad responsibility for financial strategy, capital structure, banking and investor relationships, treasury, accounting, compliance, and long-term growth. A central focus of the role is securing and structuring capital to support large-scale land acquisitions, site improvements, development activities, and the company’s continued growth.
This is a strategic, relationship-driven role focused on building and managing the company’s financial relationships, capital partnerships, and strategic transactions. The CFO provides executive oversight of the accounting and finance function — including treasury, financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, and compliance. The CFO operates comfortably at both strategic and detailed levels, engaging directly in complex financing transactions, acquisition and development proformas, lender covenants, cash flow planning, and entity structures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Capital Strategy & Financing
- Develop and execute the company’s capital strategy for acquisitions, land development, and long-term growth, structuring and negotiating debt, equity, bonding, and other financing arrangements.
- Build and maintain relationships with commercial banks, private lenders, institutional capital providers, and bonding companies; lead lender presentations, negotiations, due diligence, and refinancing.
- Maintain a clear view of borrowing capacity, liquidity, leverage, collateral, guarantees, and covenants, proactively resolving issues before they become problems.
- Evaluate financing alternatives based on cost of capital, liquidity, risk, and strategic fit, and continually improve the company’s access to capital and financial flexibility.
- Partner with acquisitions, development, and operations teams to evaluate land and development opportunities, leading financial analysis of purchase price, financing structure, costs, returns, and timing.
- Develop and oversee acquisition and development proformas, evaluating project- and enterprise-level returns, sensitivities, and downside scenarios.
- Assess the impact of interest rates, land values, construction costs, absorption, and market conditions, and establish financial return thresholds for major investments.
- Provide financial guidance throughout the acquisition, entitlement, development, financing, and disposition process.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with investors and capital partners, preparing investor proformas, financial models, and capital strategy presentations.
- Partner with executive leadership on investor strategy, capital raising, and major strategic transactions, communicating performance, risks, and outlook to stakeholders.
- Develop repeatable processes for sourcing, securing, and managing outside capital, serving as a senior financial representative with sophisticated investors.
- Lead long-term financial planning and forecasting, developing multi-year models that incorporate growth, acquisitions, development pipelines, and financing needs.
- Provide executive oversight of accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely reporting for management, lenders, and investors.
- Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, budgeting, and financial controls, and ensure compliance with lender requirements and covenants.
- Develop financial metrics and KPIs that support disciplined growth, balancing opportunity with liquidity, leverage, and risk.
- Manage the relationship with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
- Work closely with legal counsel on entity structure, financing arrangements, joint ventures, guarantees, and other significant transactions, ensuring appropriate financial, tax, and risk considerations are incorporated.
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the executive leadership team, translating complex financial information into clear business recommendations.
- Lead the finance organization with strategic vision, financial discipline, and operational accountability, building and retaining a high-performing team across accounting, treasury, and compliance.
- Lead the finance function and broader company through periods of growth and change, communicating the financial and business implications clearly and maintaining flexibility as the company evolves.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field required; MBA, CPA, CFA, or other advanced financial credentials preferred.
- Significant senior-level financial leadership experience, preferably as a CFO, SVP/VP of Finance, or comparable executive.
- Demonstrated experience arranging and managing large-scale debt and equity financing, with strong commercial banking and lender relationships.
- Experience with land acquisition, real estate development, construction, infrastructure, or another capital-intensive industry preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing sophisticated financial models, acquisition and development proformas, and long-term forecasts.
- Experience working directly with investors and capital partners, and with legal counsel on entity structures and complex transactions.
- Strong understanding of debt structures, interest rates, leverage, liquidity, financial covenants, collateral, guarantees, bonding, and capital markets.
- Experience managing treasury and cash management functions, and overseeing accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and external audits.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a finance organization through significant growth and change.
