AVP of Accounting

Job Description

Our client is a multi-entity company looking for an AVP of Accounting for a small, family owned client who can operate at both ends of the accounting spectrum, personally executing daily and month-end close functions while driving financial strategy, process improvement, and team development. This is a high-ownership role with direct visibility to executive leadership and real influence over how the accounting function scales. It's the right move for a seasoned accounting leader who still loves being in the details and isn't looking to manage from a distance.  

Responsibilities:

• Lead and personally execute month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, bank reconciliations across multiple high-volume accounts, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Analyze monthly financial results with a strategic lens, delivering variance analysis, cost-center performance insights, and margin health assessments to guide executive decision-making
• Hire, coach, and develop accounting staff while overseeing onboarding, career development, and service standard achievement
• Drive process improvement and automation initiatives, assist with annual budget preparation and reporting, and coordinate with external auditors and tax accountants on financial reviews and tax returns

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of general accounting experience balancing hands-on execution with strategic oversight; 4+ years in a management or player-coach capacity
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred
• Experience with multi-entity general ledger, annual audits, budgeting, and working with external accounting firms
• Advanced Excel skills required; Sage Intacct experience a plus
