Vice President of Finance & Accounting

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Finance & Accounting is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the YMCA of Honolulu in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, including preparation of current financial reports as well as summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook. Directs and oversees the financial activities of the Association and is responsible for providing the fiscalstrategic leadership for the YMCA of Honolulu by working with the Metropolitan Executive Team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. Includes hands-on work as a leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Directs and oversees the Association’s financial administration and planning including, but not limited to, financial policy development and implementation, management of accounting and payroll systems,vbudget planning and implementation, purchasing, taxation, short- and long-term forecasting, andvstrategic planning.
• Oversees and manages relationships with lending institutions, financial-related consultants, and thevbroader business community including financing plans.
• Provides financial direction to real estate transactions including proforma development, scenariovplanning, and financing.
• Provides leadership for quality improvement strategies, reaping greater efficiency, effectiveness, teamwork and cost savings. Contributes to the Association’s short- and long-range planning,v identifying areas of possible growth, expansion, and new profit opportunities. Maintains constant awareness of new trends and developments in relation to the Association.
• Manages the functional areas of financial reporting and control, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, investments, tax exemption, board relations, and audit management information. Oversees the preparation of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and capital budgets. Reviews and monitors the Association's financial position; periodically distributes necessary reports on the Association’s financial stability, liquidity, and growth; and prepares for and coordinates the annual audit and preparation of the IRS Form 990 by an independent CPA firm.
• Ensures all activities and operations are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations. Collects, maintains and reports the financial data on government contracts and grants.
• Oversees insurance function to assure the Association’s assets are safeguarded from possible exposure.
• Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; translating organizational goals into executable plans; and actively works to promote and recognize performance. Keeps abreast of overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions.
• Enhances and/or develops, implements and enforces the Association’s fiscal policies and procedures via systems that will provide adequate internal controls and improve its overall operations and effectiveness.
• Establish credibility throughout the Association, and with the Board and its Committees as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
• Evaluates the Accounting team’s plans for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities of individuals.
• Ensures compliance with the Association’s risk management policies and procedures.
• Primary staff for the Finance Committee, Audit Sub-Committee, and Investment Committee. Assists volunteers in the development of reports and analysis for fiduciary oversight.
• Prepares and files appropriate financial reports for governmental and other agencies.
• Participates in financial committees, executive committee, and board meetings.
• Assists in other tasks and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain and interpret financial information to different groups.
• Proficiency in forecasting and financial reports and software required.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret economic conditions and anticipate the impact on the Association.
• Ability to communicate proficiently in English to work demands.
• Basic competency in duties and tasks of supervised employees and ability to provide guidance to employees.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints. Must be able to write and deliver presentations adapted to various learning styles and financial acumen including innovative or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
• Ability to apply financial concepts to practical situations including budget preparation and program planning.

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting and/or Finance from an accredited educational institution required.
• MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred.

• Experience in multi-location or multi-departmental environments preferred.
• Minimum ten years related experience and/or training; solid corporate and management accounting experience with an annual budget of at least $10 million in annual revenue required.
