POSITION TITLE: Credit Analyst
DEPARTMENT: Credit Administration
ACCOUNTABILITY: EVP, Chief Credit Officer
Scope of Responsibility: The Credit Analyst position supports the Bank’s lending function and facilitates loan portfolio management objectives. This position performs highly technical credit and financial statement analysis utilized in underwriting new commercial loan requests, renewing open-end commercial lines of credit, and ongoing financial reviews for the Bank’s customer relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Preparation of loan analyses for new credit requests, including spreading financial statements, completing or updating the various component of an HSB Loan Approval document, including Business and Management Background, Business and Personal Financial Analysis, Obligor Cash Flow, Strengths and Weaknesses of the proposed loan, etc.
- Compose the narrative analysis for credit requests where appropriate based on the size and complexity of the transaction or relationship
- Effective assessment of:
- Customer’s background and management capabilities
- Customer’s products or services, industry outlook, and competition
- Customer’s financing history
- Customer’s and guarantor’s financial capacity
- Spread new financial information received on existing credit relationships and update the analysis to assist lenders with annual loan risk rating reviews
- Prepare financial documentation for review and renewal of commercial lines of credit, including evaluation of payment performance and covenant compliance
- Prepare industry-specific research as needed from time to time where relevant and appropriate to a credit decision
- Providing financial analysis needed for modifications and extensions;
- Participating in required compliance training and ensuring compliance with all regulations that apply within the scope of the position. Supervisors have day-to-day oversight responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory laws as they relate to functions within their departments;
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of bank policies and procedures, including BSA.
- Account Management
- Maintain financial statement tracking, covenant compliance tracking, and documentation deficiency reporting systems within LoanVantage
- Maintain oversight of ongoing reviews and renewals of commercial lines of credit within LoanVantage
- Assist with regulatory examinations, loan reviews, and audits
- Other Duties
- Maintain good working knowledge of the Bank’s credit policies and regulatory lending guidelines
- Maintain an excellent understanding of legal documentation requirements
- Provide consultative support to the credit documentation and administration staff to ensure credit facilities are properly documented
- Actively participate in community service activities and/or volunteer to promote our mission, generate visibility, and serve our local community.
- Other duties as assigned
Contacts & Relationships: The individual in this position will work closely with credit and loan department personnel, Business Development Officers, Chief Credit Officer, and Chief Lending Officer to provide management with an objective and ongoing assessment of the overall portfolio quality.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Undergraduate/Associates degree in Accounting/Finance;
- Banking industry experience preferred;
- Understanding of personal and business tax returns & financial statements;
- Demonstrates attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment;
- Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
