POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for supervising and directing Credit Union accounting functions of the Accountants, Accounting Specialists and Clerks, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset, and cost accounting. Responsible for developing, monitoring, maintaining, and reporting financial budgets, forecasts and accounting updates for the Credit Union. Develops and implements cost analyses to support management in the pricing of products and services. Identifies and recommends the cost and earning contributions of all services, functions, and departments. Directs, trains, supervises, and appraises accounting personnel. Assists the VP of Accounting in ensuring that accounting functions are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and Credit Union procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Assumes responsibility for assisting VP of Accounting in the development of effective accounting policies and procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective and accurate completion of accounting recording and reporting functions.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective and accurate completion of budget functions.
- Directs the Accounting Department’s cost and project accounting functions.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication with Credit Union personnel and with management.
- Effectively supervises the Accounting Department, ensuring optimal performance.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors and regulators, and with professional trade groups.
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education, accounting experience and supervision.
- Understanding of general accepted accounting principles, government regulations and reporting requirements.
- General knowledge of advanced budgeting, costing, pricing, and forecasting practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with related auditing and data processing functions.
- Understanding of automated accounting applications.
- Knowledge of Credit Union environment, operations and information flow.
- Must have five to seven years of financial accounting and budgeting experience, preferably in a financial institution.
- Must have five to seven years related supervisory experience, preferably in a financial institution.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills to include conveying detailed information, preparing clear and concise business letters and reports, and making professional presentations.
- Must have excellent analytical abilities to include applying logical or scientific thinking to define problems, interpreting technical instructions, and performing basic statistical calculations.
- Must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects with various individuals and departments.
- Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Must have the ability to effectively use PC and peripheral equipment, including adding machines, telephone systems, and other commonly used general office machines.
- Master’s Degree in Accounting / Finance. CPA and/or CMA.
