Role Summary: 

The Assistant Controller is a strategic partner to the Controller and a critical leader within TireHub's Finance organization, responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit activities.

This role leads a team of accounting and accounts payable professionals and partners closely with executive leadership, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, Operations, external auditors, and shareholder representatives. The right candidate is a hands-on leader who brings deep technical accounting expertise alongside strong leadership, communication, and business acumen.

We are looking for a proven leader with public accounting experience and a track record of progressive responsibility in industry who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. This position offers significant executive exposure and is viewed as a key succession role within TireHub's Finance organization.

This position reports directly to the Controller.

Role Specifics:

Leadership & Team Development

• Directly leads, coaches, develops, and evaluates a team of General Ledger Accountants and an Accounts Payable organization.
• Establishes a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and operational excellence while recruiting, developing and retaining high-performing talent and maintaining succession plans for key accounting positions.
• Serves as the primary escalation point for complex accounting, operational, and personnel matters.
• Fosters strong cross-functional relationships across Finance, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, IT, Operations, Procurement, and Executive Leadership, influencing organizational decisions through data-driven financial analysis and strategic insight.
• Acts as the Controller’s delegate and representative in executive meetings and business discussions as needed.

Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting & Audit

• Leads monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, shareholder reporting requirements, and company accounting policies.
• Oversees preparation and review of financial statements and partners with the Controller in preparing presentations and financial analyses for executive leadership and shareholders.
• Researches, documents, and implements technical accounting guidance and emerging accounting standards, driving continuous improvement in accounting policies, procedures, controls, and close processes.
• Leads coordination of the annual external and lender audit activities, serving as the key liaison to ensure timely completion of all requests and deliverables while maintaining an audit-ready accounting operation throughout the year.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

• Designs, implements, monitors internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance, and promote a strong environment that balances efficiency with business needs.
• Identifies financial, operational, and compliance risks, develops mitigation strategies and leads remediation efforts for audit findings and control deficiencies.
• Supports compliance with shareholder governance requirements and lender reporting obligations.

Cash Management & Controls

• Collaborates closely with Treasury to reconcile and report cash activities. Investigates and resolves accounting discrepancies, and addresses process inefficiencies to promote financial accuracy.

Specialized Accounting Functions

• Oversees lease accounting processes to ensure compliance with ASC 842.
• Leads the in-sourcing of sales, use and property tax reporting from third-party providers.
• Drives improvements in invoice processing, payment accuracy, and vendor management.

Training & Compliance

• Participates and maintains ongoing training requirements through in-class, in-person, or computer-based learning modules, as assigned.
• Complies with all TireHub policies and procedures.
• Completes other tasks assigned by their supervisor or another member of leadership.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Master’s degree (MBA or Master’s in Accounting/Finance) is preferred.
• CPA license required and maintained in active status.
• 8-12 years of progressive Accounting or Finance experience, including a combination of public accounting and private industry experience. Previous experience with a Big 4 or nationally recognized public accounting firm strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success leading accounting teams and developing accounting professionals and building succession for key positions.
• Experience supporting external audits for large or complex organizations required.
• Experience in distribution, logistics, or supply chain environment is a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and applicable regulations as they apply to financial reporting, general ledger structure, and internal controls, and sales, use, and property tax compliance.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex financial results and data into clear, actionable insights for both finance and non-finance audiences, including executive leadership, auditors, and external business partners.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, set clear expectations, and drive accountability across the team.
• High degree of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and accountability in all interactions and decision-making.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing talent, building high-performing teams, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Proficiency with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems (Epicor preferred) and Visual Lease.

Working Conditions:

• This is a fast-paced and dynamic operating environment.
• Majority of time is spent sitting, constantly viewing monitors in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move around. There may be occasions to move or lift light articles.
• This role is based in our headquarters office in Dunwoody, GA and requires a strong in-person presence.
• Critical periods include month-end, quarter-end, year-end close, and audit cycles.
• Must be able to travel up to 10% for training, conferences, or other company locations as needed.
