Job Description
Our client in Falmouth, Nova Scotia is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their growing finance team. This permanent role offers strong long-term career potential in a rapidly expanding organization and industry.
As the Assistant Controller, you will be a key leader within the finance function, responsible for overseeing core financial operations and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and controls. As the organization continues its rapid and sustained growth, this role offers a clear and meaningful pathway toward a future Controller position for a high-performing individual who is looking to grow with the business.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Oversight of day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close activities
- Treasury management, including active coordination with multiple banking partners
- Cash flow monitoring, forecasting, and liquidity management support
- Supervision and development of a growing accounting team (4–8 staff)
- Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity of financial reporting
- Supporting controllership functions as the organization scales
- Continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls
- Support with audit preparation and external reporting requirements
- Collaboration with leadership on financial insights and operational planning
- CPA designation in progress, or actively pursuing Chartered Professional Accountants (Canada)
- Strong treasury experience is a significant asset (banking relationships, cash management, liquidity planning)
- Comfortable working in a focused, structured, and growing environment
- Demonstrated desire for long-term growth within an organization
- Leadership capability, with experience managing or developing accounting teams
- Strong technical accounting skills and exceptional attention to detail
