Accounts Receivable Specialist
Job Title: AR Specialist
Department: Administration
Reports To: AR Director
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Position Summary: The Billing and AR Specialist is responsible for billing and collection of monies due from assigned payers including Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care.
Delegation of Authority: As a Billing and AR Specialist, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Create and/ or maintain tracking systems to ensure accounts are paid timely.

Generate claims using facility EHR system (Point-Click-Care, etc.).

Review claims for accuracy and completeness.

Upload claims to Clearinghouse, and follow to verify receipt by the assigned payer(s).

Resolve any billing discrepancies, non-payment of claims, etc. through research performed on various websites, as well as calling respective payor sources and researching written correspondence such as EOBs, contracts, etc.

Use discretion and independent judgment as it relates to contacting and coordinating collection of outstanding accounts receivable in a timely and efficient manner.

Maintains collection activity in the respective EHR files for each Resident.

Maintains collection logs related to outstanding accounts and all payment plans.

Assists Business Office Manager as necessary and with the maintenance of resident information and files.

Coordinates updates of changed Resident information to corporate office and the appropriate facility staff.

Interprets and analyzes accounts to determine if a write-off request should be made to the Accounts Receivable Director.

Finds solutions, not obstacles, to workplace demands.

Purchase and maintain inventory of office supplies through online purchasing accounts for Corporate Office.

Answering phones and covering for administrative office/receptionist as needed.

Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.
-
Prior medical billing experience highly preferred, but not required.

Prior Accounts Receivable experience highly preferred, but not required.

Ability to communicate effectively with Insurance Agencies / other payors to resolve denials or billing errors to collect unpaid claims.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
