Accounts Receivable Clerk

Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Accounts Receivable, the Accounts Receivable Representative will support and complete front-line accounts receivable duties. Responsibilities include collecting overdue accounts, verifying the Driver Safety Rating (DSR) enquires and re-rating process, balancing and monitoring financial and payment reports, and analyzing and calculating financial audit trails.

The Accounts Receivable Representative responds to internal and external customer service enquiries, works to resolve and balance customer accounts, and verifies all batch output and corporate correspondence.

Responsibilities

Accounting Duties                                                                                  

• Respond to enquiries, including calculating and reconciling:
  • DSR enquiries and the re-rating process.
  • Non-policy loans, including processing new agreements, reversals and corrections.
  • Account adjustments and audit trails, including non-policy arrears.
  • Dishonoured cheques and late fees.
  • Payment requisitions.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Prepare and reconcile month and year-end adjustments for payment on accounts.
  • Provide support for front-line departments and assists with funds balancing issues.

Collection and Customer Service                                                     

• Contact customers on the Broker Notification Task List and family members of deceased customers regarding driver’s licence, policy, non-policy current and aged receivable issues.
• Process account write-offs for bankrupt customers.
• Contact customers on Photo Rejects and performs driver’s licence replacements to queue the production of photo cards.
• Notify customers regarding mismatched amounts to avoid any disruption in policy coverage and/or driver licensing validity.
• Balance daily financial and e-payment reports and reconciles bank and credit card uploads, returns and rejections.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Financial Accounting 1 course or equivalent.

Experience:

• Three years of experience in the insurance industry providing information about Basic and Extension insurance products, including two years in customer service.
• Autopac Agency experience is an asset.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• Intermediate interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues in a confidential manner.
• Accounting and analytical skills. Handles multiple tasks and prioritizes assignments to meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of enterprise software (IWS, CARS, DLS and LAWSON) is an asset.
• Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Word, Access and SharePoint.
• Conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work with confidential customer information in a discreet manner.
