We are partnering with a large, complex organization seeking a Accounting Manager to join its accounting leadership team in Charlotte.
This is an excellent opportunity for a high-performing accounting professional who wants increased leadership responsibility and the ability to make a meaningful impact within a sophisticated accounting environment.
The Manager will play an important role in monthly and quarterly close, financial reporting, internal controls, team development, and continuous process improvement for an assigned operating segment.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with an ownership mindset and the ability to review work, develop people, identify issues, and improve processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close for an assigned operating segment.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accounting activities are accurate, timely, well-supported, and compliant with U.S. GAAP.
- Review balance-sheet reconciliations and investigate significant or recurring reconciling items.
- Perform financial and variance analysis and clearly communicate key drivers of results.
- Maintain and execute internal controls supporting accounting and financial reporting activities.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, documentation, controls, and close efficiency.
- Partner with internal and external audit teams and support audit requests, walkthroughs, and testing.
- Lead, coach, and review the work of Senior and Staff Accountants.
- Establish clear expectations around accuracy, timeliness, accountability, and documentation.
- Partner with FP&A, Operations, Corporate Accounting, Tax, IT, and other cross-functional teams.
- Support automation, systems enhancements, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and month-end close.
- Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Experience within a public accounting and/or public-company environment strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of SOX and internal controls.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
- Ability to identify accounting issues and improve existing processes.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or review experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- CPA or active CPA candidate
- Big 4 or national public accounting experience
- Combination of public accounting and industry experience
- Public-company accounting experience
- Experience supporting a business unit, division, or operating segment
- Process improvement or control-enhancement experience
- Exposure to large ERP and close-management systems
