Position Summary Skyhook Stairs & Rails is seeking an Accounting Manager to support the CFO and accounting team with daily financial operations, construction accounting, job costing, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and month-end close activities. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working collaboratively with operations and project teams while helping improve processes in a growing specialty contractor environment.
The Accounting Manager will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, improving reporting processes, and providing financial insight to support project profitability and company growth.
Key Responsibilities General Accounting
- Assist with monthly financial close processes, general ledger reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, licensing, and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and support internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows, and efficiencies.
- Assist with audits, reporting requirements, and other accounting projects as needed
- Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including customer invoicing, collections, aging reports, and cash application.
- Coordinate progress billings, customer portals, retention tracking, lien release documentation, and collection efforts.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and internal project teams.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with improving cash flow.
- Review and maintain accurate job cost records, ensuring labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other costs are coded correctly.
- Partner with Project Managers to review project profitability, cost variances, cash flow, and financial risks.
- Assist with monthly project financial reviews and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Track approved and pending change orders and support accurate project profitability reporting.
- Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, and Preconstruction teams to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy.
- Ensure weekly payroll information is accurately reflected in the general ledger.
- Prepare reconciliations for accounts receivable, payroll accruals, and other assigned balance sheet accounts
- Support month-end close activities and reporting deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, or equivalent accounting experience.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience required.
- Construction accounting, job costing, or contractor accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online and Bill.com.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operations teams.
