Job Description
Our client, a regarded public practice firm located in Southern BC (Kootenay region) is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their busy team. If you're seeking a quieter pace of life where the outdoors and milder temperatures are consistent 365 days/yr., this could be the right opportunity for you!
As an Accounting Manager, you will serve as a strategic partner to clients, a mentor to your team, and a driving force behind the firm’s growth and leadership. This multifaceted role bridges the gap between technical expertise, people management, and client relations. You will lead accounting, tax, and assurance engagements, foster staff development, and work alongside firm leadership to elevate the service delivery and optimize practice operations.
Responsibilities;
-
Project Execution & Compliance: You will take full ownership of accounting, assurance, and tax engagements from kickoff to final sign-off. This includes managing budgets and timelines, ensuring workflow efficiency, and maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and firm standards.
-
Client Relationship Management: As the primary point of contact, you will build deep, trusted relationships by proactively communicating and understanding each client's unique business goals. You'll use these insights to identify opportunities to deliver extra value.
-
Team Leadership & Mentorship: You will actively coach and mentor accounting staff and junior team members. Beyond helping CPA students with professional development, you will foster a collaborative, accountable culture and play a key role in onboarding future firm leaders.
-
Strategic Firm Contribution: Working side-by-side with Partners, you will help shape engagement strategies and operational priorities. You'll participate in leadership discussions, drive continuous improvement by adopting new technologies, and contribute to overall firm growth.
Requirements;
- CPA (Canada) designation in good standing
- Approximately 2–5 years of post-designation public practice experience
- Experience managing accounting, assurance, and tax engagements from planning through completion
- Strong technical knowledge in accounting, assurance, and taxation
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality client service
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to professionalism, continuous improvement, and leadership development
- Highly organized, with a strong attention to detail, able to think critically and prioritize
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both written/verbal, internally and externally
